New Year. New Booths.

A new academic year is right around the corner and we're looking forward to about 75 Fresh Check Days this fall semester alone! We have been working hard over the summer and are excited to unveil a new program for college students and 4 new booth options to incorporate into your next Fresh Check Day! Here are the important highlights:

  • Nine out of Ten Ambassadors is a new program of the Jordan Porco Foundation designed for college students. Please help us spread the word to any students who may be interested.
  • Groups running the Nine out of Ten booth at Fresh Check Day are expected to receive and follow the updated booth chapter content AND are strongly encouraged to sign up to become Nine out of Ten Ambassadors to carry the message all year long!
  • Effective immediately, the new booth "Thrive" will replace the booth known as "Look for the Good." If you were planning to include "Look for the Good" in your Fresh Check Day, your booth activities should not be affected, but you will be expected to update the booth name and branding.

A New Program for Students

Nine out of Ten Ambassadors is a new program of the Jordan Porco Foundation that empowers college students to be a hopeful voice for suicide prevention and promote a mental health movement on campus. Through student-led innovation and a multitude of approaches, Nine out of Ten student ambassadors engage in year-round advocacy and awareness activities to spread the message of Nine out of Ten: Be Aware, Speak Up, Reach Out, and #helpsomeone. 4 New Fresh Check Day Booths!

New booths will be incorporated into the 2018 Inside the Booths Handbook. In the meantime, they are being released as individual booth chapters for immediate use. Banner graphics and booth chapters are available for password protected download at freshcheckday.com/planning.
Inspired by positive psychology, Thrive conveys the messages that focusing on strengths and embracing a positive attitude can better equip one to thrive in their environment and that practicing gratitude can positively affect mental health.

Important: Effective immediately, Thrive will replace the booth known as "Look for the Good." If you were planning to include "Look for the Good" in your Fresh Check Day, your booth activities should not be affected, but you will be expected to update the booth name and branding. If you have any questions or concerns about this, contact your staff liaison or our Program Manager.
Addressing a much needed gap in Fresh Check Day booth messaging, U Belong strives to bring awareness to the unique experiences of non-traditional students, explain how others can show support and recognize their strengths, and to showcase resources to help support non-traditional students.

The booth formerly known as "Support Our Service Members" is being relaunched with a brand new look, after undergoing some important updates. Introducing At Ease - this booth provides education for the general student body about the unique challenges their service member peers face, while also supplying resource information for student service members and their loved ones.

Mood Matters was introduced at a select number of schools last year as a pilot. With a couple of adjustments, we are excited to launch it as one of the newest Fresh Check Day booth options! Mood Matters aims to raise awareness, educate, and decrease stigma about anxiety and mood disorders among college students and share symptoms and treatment options.
