Summer '17: Kelly Green is Making it Real

At a recent "Celebration and Visioning" event, we began to see what's possible on our neighborhood school's large space. Take a look at some of the transformations taking place.

A thriving and beautiful garden!

Cabbage, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, kale, radishes, carrots and more now grow where the soil was barren. Kelly Garden Club students help plant it.
It's a resource for the community all summer. The garden is open every Monday 5-6 PM for anyone to come help weed and water, then harvest to take home whatever is ready.

Meadow in the front...

Outdoor classroom in the back!

Birds, bees and butterflies have replaced tire marks and weeds that once were part of this landscape. Stop by. Take a selfie! And make sure to share it on social media with #OurKellyGreen. We'll feature our favorites in an upcoming newsletter!
A new outdoor classroom is taken shape. The classroom is a lesson in sustainability as the "chairs" are from local trees that were recently cut down. Here, school lessons in partnership with the Audubon Society, will take place in a more natural setting.

Celebration and Visioning

We're gathering ideas

  • How do we best use this important space?
  • How can an improved schoolyard help respond to our neighborhood's challenges?
Have an idea that you'd like to share? Email us at kellygreen@hansberrygarden.org or reach out to us on our Facebook page.

New partners bring in more opportunities
