NEWSLETTER #2.
 IMPORTANT MESSAGE:
Many of you may already have received a copy of this newsletter. However, it has been brought to our attention that recent new members of our cooperating clubs may not be on our amalgamated email list that we have used for previous newsletters. Therefore, some of you may be receiving this newsletter for the first time, others may have already received it a day or so ago. If the latter is the case, my apologies. But we do want to make sure that everyone who needs the info about NV is receiving it.

Thanks for your understanding!

August 8, 2017.

Good morning!

For the first time in the history of Nature Visions, and at the request of many of you, we are having Portfolio Reviews done at the 2017 Nature Visions Photo Expo. This will be an excellent opportunity for you to have your photos critiqued by an expert photographer. Many other photo expos have such reviews and we are following the same type of procedure and fees that they use.  While the details are on our website here, the following briefly describes how it works.

First, go to Eventbrite and sign up for a review session (here). (Remember, you sign up for the Review in a separate section on Eventbrite...not the same section as you use when registering for the Expo itself.) Then put together a collection of no more than 12-15 images you would like to have reviewed and put them on your laptop. (This is important as it will be a digital review. Also, you will not have Internet access so make sure you have them directly on your computer.) You will then have a 20-25 minute session with your reviewer with an opportunity to ask questions, discuss your image, etc. Best of all, you will be able to select the reviewer you want and many of the guest speakers at the expo have indicated a willingness to participate. So go sign up now and get the time and reviewer you want!

Now, continuing with our introductions of our speakers and presenters, we want to introduce you today to Melissa Groo, who will be our keynote speaker on Saturday. Melissa is a wildlife photographer, conservationist, and ethicist. Her photographs have been published in numerous books and magazines, including Smithsonian, Audubon, Birdwatching, National Wildlife, Living Bird, and New York State Conservationist Magazine.

She writes a regular column on wildlife photography for Outdoor Photographer magazine. Melissa advises the National Audubon Society on photography content as well as ethics in bird photography, and she is a contributing editor to Audubon magazine. She’s on the faculty of the Summit Series of Photography Workshops and Hog Island Audubon Camp. Melissa has received awards and honorable mentions in many photography competitions, including Audubon (Grand Prize winner, 2015), Nature’s Best, and NANPA (North American Nature Photography Association).

Melissa will speak on her journey into wildlife photography, sharing basic tips as well as pointers on ethical photography of wildlife, throughout touching on the power of photography to affect conservation.

I am really looking forward to Melissa’s presentation and I hope you are too! Remember, her presentation on Saturday is included in both the 3-day and 2-day passes!

Couple of other items of interest. First, many of you have been asking about lunches. We are currently in negotiations with a provider but have not yet finalized the details. As soon as we have this wrapped up we will send out a blast email as well as announcing it on the Nature Visions website.

Secondly, we have a number of new vendors this year, including Nikon and Fujifilm. In the next newsletter I will list for you the vendors that will be attending. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or need more information. And don’t forget to link up with us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter!

Best,

Roger Lancaster, President
