Defensive Driving Update
Due to sports commitments we have changed the dates of the next defensive driving course to 12, 14, 19 and 21 September. We will send another consent link the week before it is due to start.
 
Health Centre Notice
On Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 August, the Year 8 girls will receive a free dental check at the Havelock North Community Dental Clinic. For any queries please contact Nurse Nikki: nurse@woodford.school.nz

Hawke's Bay Year 12 Art Exhibition
This year, 17 of our Visual Art students will be contributing work for exhibition, some of which will be for sale. The opening night with category prizes awarded is Monday 14 August at 5.30pm. Family and friends are welcome to attend. Sponsored by Souness Stone Law Partnership, this annual show runs from Monday August 14 to Saturday 26 August at the Hastings Community Arts Centre (aka Arts Inc. Heretaunga) on Russell Street. Open from 10-4pm each day (Saturdays until 2pm) the show features around 200 examples of painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, design and photography from secondary schools in Hawke’s Bay.

ACADEMIC


Mathematics test
The Year 7/8 and Year 9 mathematics extension class will sit the International Common Assessment for Schools (ICAS) test on Tuesday 15 August during their mathematics class. ICAS is organised by the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Students have an opportunity to compete with their peers across more than 10 countries. This test doesn’t require special preparation and is compulsory for extension classes. Students’ efforts will be acknowledged by relevant certificates once papers are sent away and marked.
 
University presentations
We are hosting a series of university sessions this term to assist students who are enrolling for university in 2018 (or 2019 if students are going on a Gap or working year). There will be an advisor from each university present on the night. Parents are welcome to attend any of the following:
  • AUT: Wednesday 23 August
  • Lincoln: Monday 28 August
  • Canterbury: Wednesday 30 August
  • Otago: Thursday 31 August
  • Waikato: Monday 11 September (Pathways room)
  • Victoria: Monday 11 September
  • University of Auckland: Wednesday 20 September
  • Massey Monday 25 September
Hosted in the Gallery / Pathways room. All sessions start at 6pm.

CULTURAL


Les Misérables production
Lindisfarne College and Iona College haved joined together to perform Les Misérables, a masterpiece of musical theatre, which has stood the test of time, enthralling audiences across the globe. Tickets are selling out fast.
 
Our girls have the opportunity to attend a school performance on Thursday 17 August. A bus will transport girls to and from Lindisfarne College. The cost of this trip is approximately $32. Year 7/8 Debating
Selected students will participate in the Kidnappers Year 7/8 Debating Competition on Thursday 17 August at Radio Kidnappers. The debate will be broadcast live on 104.7 FM. A parent letter has been sent to those involved.

SPIRITUAL


Baptism at Woodford House Chapel
We are holding a baptism service this Sunday 13 August in the School Chapel at 7pm. Baptism is a wonderful occasion. Families are welcome to attend and join us for congratulations and refreshments following the service.
 
Confirmation Service
Bishop Andrew will be visiting us on Sunday 15 October to conduct our confirmation service. This is especially significant as we will also be celebrating St Francis Day at that service. If your daughter would like to be prepared for confirmation, please contact Rev Deborah as soon as possible deborah.wilson@woodford.school.nz

BOARDING


The boarders will have a lot of fun at Glow bowling (tenpin bowling) at Superstrike in Hastings on Saturday. Girls can go to the cinemas on Sunday if they wish.
