The 29th Annual Shepherd of the Sea Golf Gala was held on June 24th at Burning Ridge Golf and Country Club. Eighty (80) golfers participated in this event. A record total of 55 vendors provide hole sponsorships of $100, and some 65 businesses provide prizes. Hole sponsors were given a tri picture folio of their name and hole sponsored. Prize money went to first three places, and prizes were awarded to closest to the line, and men and women's closest to pin. Golfer's had a chance to win a Mercedes Benz in a hole in one contest. After expenses, net receipts from the tournament were approximately $6,000. Money will be used to pay SOS Suggested Goals for 2017, and scholarships at the Lutheran Seminary.

Tournament Director Bob Alexander says, "First place and third place teams of the 29th Annual Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran (SOS) Church Lutheran Men in Mission (LMM) Golf Gala are members of the Murrells Inlet Elks.  Second Place Team Leader Joe Sparks is member of Monday Goofers League with others on his team being members of his family."
The first-place golfing team of Don Mims, John Whitlock, Tom Stricker and Fred Scott shared $80 of their $160 winnings to assist in South Carolina Lutheran Men in Mission church funding and seminary scholarships Saturday, June 24, following competition in 90+ degree heat at Burning Ridge Golf Course, Conway.
Second place team was Joe Sparks, Chris Sparks, Ron Vickery and Steven Sparks, and third place was Dale Huggins, Ike Vinson, Sam Weiss and Bobby Donaldson. Closest to the pin woman golfer on Fairway 2 was Wendy Schifer, and closest to the pin male on Fairway 12 was Bob Poudrier, who were in a team also including Rich Sand and Mike Schifer, who all wore white golf hats.  The team of SOS Pastor Brad Bellah, John Howard, Ben Howard and Brian Bursner were on Fairway 10, when Bursner shot the closest to the line.
Rick Sand, Guest, Wendy Schifer, Mike Schifer,  hidden is Larry Rathe, Bob Alexender.

The group gives financial support to the development and growth of congregations in the South Carolina Synod with special emphasis on ELCA mission congregations, primarily new starts. The SOS LMM group meets monthly on the 4th Monday of the month in the church Fellowship Hall, Garden City. The evening begins with fellowship at 6 p.m., and meal serving starts at 6:30 p.m.
The evening’s program is at 7 p.m. with topics including Bible studies, guest speakers, youth programs and special events. Each month, a group of 3 or 4 men volunteer to cook and serve a meal. An annual sweetheart luncheon is on a Sunday afternoon in February at the Landmark Hotel and all SOS members are invited to attend.
The year is capped off by the men cooking and serving a Thanksgiving feast at the November LMM meeting.  All members are invited to attend and about 150 to 160 are served.  The SOS Women of the ELCA (WELCA) group, and other ladies of the church, assist by providing and serving deserts, according to the church website at www.ShepherdOfTheSea.com

Some are good and some are really good.
It will give you a feel of where we are headed with our ministry.
This is an ecumenical team of men's leaders from non denominational leaders to Church Of God and Methodist and assorted Lutherans. We gather resources that point to Jesus and span across the spectrum from left to right. Our criteria is grace.
