Murrells Inlet Elks Win, 2017

The 29th Annual Shepherd of the Sea Golf Gala was held on June 24th at Burning Ridge Golf and Country Club. Eighty (80) golfers participated in this event. A record total of 55 vendors provide hole sponsorships of $100, and some 65 businesses provide prizes. Hole sponsors were given a tri picture folio of their name and hole sponsored. Prize money went to first three places, and prizes were awarded to closest to the line, and men and women's closest to pin. Golfer's had a chance to win a Mercedes Benz in a hole in one contest. After expenses, net receipts from the tournament were approximately $6,000. Money will be used to pay SOS Suggested Goals for 2017, and scholarships at the Lutheran Seminary.

Tournament Director Bob Alexander says, "First place and third place teams of the 29th Annual Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran (SOS) Church Lutheran Men in Mission (LMM) Golf Gala are members of the Murrells Inlet Elks. Second Place Team Leader Joe Sparks is member of Monday Goofers League with others on his team being members of his family."
The first-place golfing team of Don Mims, John Whitlock, Tom Stricker and Fred Scott shared $80 of their $160 winnings to assist in South Carolina Lutheran Men in Mission church funding and seminary scholarships Saturday, June 24, following competition in 90+ degree heat at Burning Ridge Golf Course, Conway.
Second place team was Joe Sparks, Chris Sparks, Ron Vickery and Steven Sparks, and third place was Dale Huggins, Ike Vinson, Sam Weiss and Bobby Donaldson. Closest to the pin woman golfer on Fairway 2 was Wendy Schifer, and closest to the pin male on Fairway 12 was Bob Poudrier, who were in a team also including Rich Sand and Mike Schifer, who all wore white golf hats. The team of SOS Pastor Brad Bellah, John Howard, Ben Howard and Brian Bursner were on Fairway 10, when Bursner shot the closest to the line.
