V&M Celebrations
11am
@ Martha Washington Park!

11am:  Mary DeJong gives an eco-theological reflection on the relationship between humanity and the environment and how it relates to humanity and it's relationship to the image of God. This reflection will explore the aspects of the trinity, and how the relational image of God provides humanity with a foundation to start interacting with the environment.
Important Announcement about 4pm Celebration

Last Sunday, July 30th was the final 4pm Celebration

In August we'll have Sunday Evening Brainstorming Meetings at 6:30pm to imagine what is next.

A lot has gone into this decision, so please click here to see the not-too-long letter John wrote about this. In brief: we are ending the 4pm Celebration in order to find the time to step back and explore with excitement how to redirect our energy into something new and sustainable. Starting Sunday, August 6th, in place of 4pm celebrations we'll hold brainstorming sessions on Sundays from 6:30pm - 7:30pm at the Collab, discussing a whole host of future possibilities with a brief meditation/singing at the beginning.

Here are some of the ideas shared so far (click here to see the aforementioned letter with a little explanation about what these ideas mean)
  • Theology on Tap

  • Creative Liberation education, organizing, and action

  • Youth Group

  • Small Groups

  • Taize-style services
  • Dinner Church gatherings
  • A joint project with the new church starting up in the North End

  • Experiments in Practice

  • Spiritual Formation book groups

  • Social Justice Salons

  • Project Sharing

The end of one thing often opens a door to the beginning of something new.

Rain Location = Collab

This coming August we will be holding 11am services at Martha Washington Park! It's a 5 minute drive from the Collaboratory. Bring a blanket or camping/folding chairs, or just stand. It will be in an accessible spot. The celebrations will be a shorter than normal-- about 45 minutes-- and will have an ecological theme and flair. Stay afterwards to swim, picnic, or play soccer/frisbee/chasey-chasey!

Come check out the Hillman City Car in Hillman city on Saturday, August 12th from 11:30am to 3:30pm. There will be classic cars, a beer garden, carnival games, live music and more! Valley and Mountain will have a table set up, so come by and say hi!

The event is sponsored by a number of local businesses, such as:
Coffee Physics • Rainier Valley Community Development Fund • Big Chickie NW Peaks • Tin Umbrella • Vel Dyke Properties • Bob’s Quality Meats • South East Effective Development • Seattle Dept of Neighborhoods • Classic Swagger Car Club • Rainier Chamber of Commerce
Co-Creators Wanted

11am Clean Up Managers is The Clean Up Manager doesn't do all the cleaning solo, they simply announce that we start clean up after the service and it's a team effort. Then they are available to answer questions and direct people who offer to help. This is a crucial job for the Collab as a whole!

Power Point Manager Wanted It is really exciting that we are beginning to use the screens on Sundays for the lyrics! This allows us to create a cultural of looking up when we participate and save paper! We are looking for someone who can dedicate their time during celebration managing the power points which display the lyrics of our songs.

11am Snack Bringers Wanted One of the ways we live into our mission of radical hospitality is providing snacks for folks at the 11am. We all know food is fuel, and gives us energy, so that we can CELEBRATE! We are looking for 3 families to join the snack bringer team. Your family will be assigned one Sunday a month to bring snacks!
*V&M can/will reimburse if you like, you as long as you bring the receipts*

Contact Josh or John if you are interested in using your gifts to help co-create celebration in this way.
