WAQA August QNEWS

Hi <<First Name>>, hope you are enjoying all this lovely wet weather with a bit of quilting!

Our SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT is on CALICO AND IVY this month.

Josie, at Calico and Ivy, 10 Glyde Street Mosman Park, has been providing inspiration to fibre artists and quilters for over 35 years. There is fabric and yarn and felt as well as gifts online and even more when you visit the store. A great selection of classes and workshops are on offer. Why not sign up for their newsletter and find out who is coming over in December

WAQA receives a lot of interest from people wanting quilts finished or made to order. A register of these people is being compiled by Lorraine Thompson. If you are interested in this type of work let Lorraine know and she will add you to the list. waqacorsec@gmail.com

Cathie Gamble tells me that the WAQA  Christmas Party will be the Wednesday Night 6th Dec at 6.30p.m. Christmas challenge for your table will be Christmas bunting. Mark the date! More details to come later.
Jenni Anning, Convenor of Quilt West 2017, received a lovely handwritten note from the Royal Flying Doctor Service: "Thank you for your recent donation. Please pass on our appreciation to everyone who contributed to raising such an amazing amount. To date, you have raised over $64,000 which enables us to keep providing our amazing service to the wider community. Kind regards, Michelle."

Quilt Stories is an Instagram page by Laura Hartridge. It is a page where anyone can upload a quilt picture and the story behind the quilt. Over 3,000 people are now following this series. Why not check it out and join the story telling with one of your quilts.

WORKSHOPS with KERRY MOORE

Well, the latest workshop is underway and the next one is already booked out so I can have a rest now and wait for the newest and last for the year to come out in the new QQ magazine so don’t forget to read the mag.

Did you get to the Tentmakers exhibition? I hope so. 385 people were there! Most quilts sold very quickly and the men were very happy. Jenny Bowker’s talk was amazing and in some ways incredible. The local Egyptians don’t even know about the Tentmakers. It is their overseas contacts that are giving them a new lease on life. You can Google them and come up with different links to their sites. They are all informative and heartwarming.

I would like to send out thanks to many. There was a team of people who turned up on the afternoon of the exhibition to help with setting up, preparations and the running of the evening. Lesley Clugston and her husband, Jenni Anning, Cathie Gamble, and The Tentmakers themselves were all instrumental in setting up the quilt stands, members of the committee who took the door money and handled the sales, all of the committee who made the supper, Gwen Parry and Lesley Warren who organised the supper with help from more committee members, and all other people who came to help in any way – A very big thank you to you all. We could not have done it without you.

Thank you also to those who came to the workshops. What an amazing time you all had and there was not one person whose life and vision of applique did not change in that class. And to the 385 people who came to see the show – what a turn up!! Thank you for coming. I do hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed getting it together for you.

One last thing – would all the people who bought a Tentmaker quilt please bring them to sewing day or night in August. They will make a stunning Show and Tell, and give a small taste to those who simply couldn’t come.

Till next time,

Kerry Moore.
