Amanda Haughs

"Since attending Picademy last year, I’ve enjoyed introducing other educators to Raspberry Pi and digital making, both in my district and at local, regional, and international conferences and workshops. As a ToSA (teacher on special assignment) in my district, I’ve partnered with teachers to integrate computer science instruction and digital making into grade level curriculums with Raspberry Pi. I do this using the presentation resources from, and project-based format of, Picademy to teach students as young as Kindergarten age up through 8th grade. Moreover, I’ve begun adapting lessons on the Raspberry Pi website to create materials including printable activity cards and hyperdocs to help me provide a more differentiated and self-paced experience for students. I also share these materials on my blog and on Twitter.

The biggest challenge has been finding the money to purchase equipment for our students. However, I recently acquired some pi-top CEEDs through a donation to teach coding in schools and workshops. Thanks to organizations like DonorsChoose, I’ve been able to raise the funds I need to bring digital making and computer science to students in our low-income schools."
