"It was wonderful, Pris."

"What was, honey?  The meeting?  The champagne?"

"The eclipse," said Ricki. "It was probably the most real thing I've ever seen, but it was also like a dream. You know what I mean? Real and unreal, beautiful and strange, like a dream. It got me high as a kite, but it didn't last long enough. It ended too soon and left nothing behind."

"That's how it is with dreams," said Priscilla. "They're the perfect crime.”

The Helping Friendly
Time Wharf

On August 21st, 2017 a Total Solar Eclipse will travel coast to coast across the United States for first time since 1918 (99 years), casting a 70 mile wide shadow that will turn day to night and back to day again in a matter of minutes (especially for those directly in its path.)  This has been dubbed 'The Great American Eclipse'.

Notrandomaly, after having to wait 99 years for 'The Great American Eclipse', a second Total Solar Eclipse will pass over America less than 7 years later, on April 8, 2024 to be exact.  To be even more exact, on April 8, 2024 the totality of that Total Solar Eclipse will pass directly and precisely over Dallas, TX of all places, birthplace of the Helping Friendly Book Club.

Is this random?  Is this the opposite of random?  Words fall short.

To commemorate these two precisely random/notrandom astrological events, The Helping Friendly Book Club is burying a Time Capsule during the first eclipse, and digging it up when the second eclipse blacks out the sun in Dallas 7 years later.
Why are you calling it 'The Time Wharf '?

As discussed at our most recent Helping Friendly Book Club, what we’ve really been doing on our Quest so far is building a ship, and not just any ship, but a Ship of SEJNES.  Every time we read a book we look to extract any Secrets to Eternal Joy and Never Ending Splendor it may contain, and add it to our ship.

Therefore, the Ship of SEJNES is a philosophical Ship of the Imagination built with planks of SEJNES hewn from each of the 26 books we’ve read.  Philosophical Ships of the Imagination, when they're built well, are vehicles with the capacity to transport the psyches of their passengers from one worldview to another, like The Overview Effect.  It's not a time warp, it’s a time wharf.  Wharfs are for loading and unloading ships...
"Parable has ever been a kind of ark, in which the most precious portions of the sciences were deposited."  - Sir Francis Bacon
Ship of Theseus

You know what’s weird to think about? Within the span of seven years, every cell of your body will die and be replaced— which means you literally will not be the same person in 7 years when we open the Time Wharf. This brings up a lot of questions about the nature of IDENTITY, doesn't it?

Have you ever heard about the Paradox of the Ship of Theseus?
Time Wharf Recording Session this Sunday August 13th
RSVP to the Recording Session
We've been getting together over the past few weeks to plan out what we're going to put into the Time Wharf.  On Sunday, August 13th we are going to have one last get together before the eclipse (which is on Monday August 21st, 2017) and make an audio recording of our thoughts, feelings, blessings, intentions and predictions for 2024. We are then going to put that recording onto a thumbdrive, place that thumbdrive in the Time Wharf with our other precious cargo, and bury the Time Wharf in the ground until we dig it up in April 2024 when the next Total Solar Eclipse travels directly over Dallas.

If you would like to be part of history and contribute to the ‘Time Wharf Recording Session’ please join us at my house on Sunday August 13th at 6PM. We will also be doing some artwork for the Wharf, as well as the first half of a 7 year long Tarot reading.

If you can’t make it on the 13th but would still like to contribute something to the Time Wharf, please contact me and we can try to work something out. If anyone would like to write their Future Self a letter you may email it to me at connect@helpingfriendly.com and I will do my best to send it back to you in 7 years.

The Hidden Life of Trees

“But we shouldn't be concerned about trees purely for material reasons, we should also care about them because of the little puzzles and wonders they present us with. Under the canopy of the trees, daily dramas and moving love stories are played out. Here is the last remaining piece of Nature, right on our doorstep, where adventures are to be experienced and secrets discovered. And who knows, perhaps one day the language of trees will eventually be deciphered, giving us the raw material for further amazing stories. Until then, when you take your next walk in the forest, give free rein to your imagination-in many cases, what you imagine is not so far removed from reality, after all!”

― Peter Wohlleben, The Hidden Life of Trees: What They Feel, How They

Stay tuned, we will meet in the Fall once the weather cools off.

“If you wish to build a ship, do not divide the men into teams and send them to the forest to cut wood. Instead, teach them to long for the vast and endless sea.”
