Gisborne Roadshow
Woodford House is hosting an Information Evening in Gisborne on Thursday 17 August and we invite our current families to attend in support of the School. This is a great opportunity for you to hear from the Principal, Mrs Julie Peterson, and our new Director of Boarding, Mrs Kelly Ives, on boarding at Woodford House. Old Girls event in Gisborne
We are also excited to host an Old Girls event on Wednesday 16 August. If you are an Old Girl please join the Principal for drinks and canapés at Ussco Bar and Bistro at 5.30pm. Hawke's Bay Year 12 Art Exhibition
This year, 17 of our Visual Art students will be contributing work for exhibition, some of which will be for sale. The opening night with category prizes awarded is Monday 14 August at 5.30pm. Family and friends are welcome to attend. Sponsored by Souness Stone Law Partnership, this annual show runs from Monday August 14 to Saturday 26 August at the Hastings Community Arts Centre (aka Arts Inc. Heretaunga) on Russell Street. Open from 10-4pm each day (Saturdays until 2pm) the show features more than 200 examples of painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, design and photography from secondary schools in Hawke’s Bay. 
 
Drop-off zones
Please remember, when dropping off girls, to avoid parking on the pedestrian crossing at the front of the school, and to drive slowly through the drop off zone. When buses are parked it is particularly busy so caution is required.
 
Defensive driving course
A defensive driving course commences next week. The course will be for two weeks on Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 August, then Tuesday 15 and Thursday 17 August, from 3.30 - 5.30pm. The cost of the course is $215. ACADEMIC


University presentations
In Term 1 we hosted information sessions from eight universities. These presentations contained general information about how university differs from secondary school, fees, halls, costs and course information.

We are hosting sessions again this term, but the focus is on assisting students who are enrolling for university in 2018 (or 2019 if students are going on a Gap or working year) in planning papers for the first semester. Parents are welcome to attend.

Hosted in the Gallery/ Pathways rooms. All sessions start at 6pm.

Careers Day for Year 12
The Year 12 Careers Seminar Day is on Thursday 24 August at Woodford House. Students will attend five sessions throughout the day relating to career journeys of a variety of invited guests. Thank you to parents and Old Girls who volunteered their time and expertise.

CULTURAL


Dance Made
Selected students will participate in the Dance Made Regional Competition on Monday 7 August at the Napier Municipal Theatre. A parent letter has been sent.
 
The Kids Sing
Members of the Year 7/8 Choir will attend a rehearsal on Tuesday 8 August and participate in The Kids Sing Choral Competition on Wednesday 9 August. The choir will then perform in the evening concert on the same day. A parent letter has been sent.
 
Daughters of Heaven
Level 2/3 NCEA Drama production ‘Daughters of Heaven’ by Michelanne Forster (abridged) is on Friday 11 August, 7pm in the Dame Kate Harcourt Performing Arts Centre. Gold coin donation. To book tickets please email Fiona.Mackenzie@woodford.school.nz. Limited seats. R16.
 
Raffle tickets

SPIRITUAL


Baptism at Woodford House Chapel
Every year we offer an opportunity to baptise students who wish to take this important step on the journey of faith. Our next baptism service is on Sunday 13 August in the School Chapel at 7pm. If your daughter has not been baptised (or ‘christened’ as it is sometimes also called), and you would like her to explore this possibility, please let me know by Friday 4 August by clicking on this link: http://bit.ly/2uYwcex
 
Baptism is a wonderful occasion -  your family is welcome to attend and join us for congratulations and refreshments following the service.
 
Confirmation Service
Bishop Andrew will be visiting us on Sunday 15 October to conduct our confirmation service. This is especially significant as we will also be celebrating St Francis Day at that service. If your daughter would like to be prepared for confirmation, please contact Rev Deborah as soon as possible Deborah.Wilson@woodford.school.nz

BOARDING


Weekend Activity
On Saturday, we are planning a beach walk along Ocean Beach. Sunday will be a fun morning wandering around our local Farmers Market in Hastings.

Winter Quad Tournament
