Resort update

What an entrance!

If you already have been to Atmosphere, you’ll find that your return will be very different, at least when it comes to your arrival at the resort. This summer, we have taken the opportunity move the entrance of Atmosphere to the top of the resort. Residents in the Garden Apartments and Penthouses can go directly to their rooms and explore the rest of the resort after having installed themselves. This way, we also make sure to showcase our gorgeous gardens right away to all guests, no matter the location of their room. We are excited that the previous bumpy road is gone, and we assure you that a pleasant surprise is being developed where it used to be...

Three new Atmosphere movies, all with scuba diving theme

We love movies at Atmosphere and this month we have three new ones to present to you! This month they are all dive related. First out is Justin Carmack from Art of Scuba, with a fun movie from his stay at Atmosphere in July – watch for the interview with our marine biologist Daniel! Second is a brilliant movie showcasing our PADI Instructor courses that we do together with Instructor Development Philippines. Third is a very short movie showing that Frogfish are just like you and me. Enjoy!

Awards

The Spa wins an award - with two more in the pipeline

We never tire of telling the world about the awards we are nominated for or winning, and this month we’d like to pat ourselves on the shoulder for having won one and been nominated for two, but we will have to wait until October to find out the result! The Luxury Spa Award was a massive success, as we won the global word wide award for Best Luxury Garden Spa. Our Spa manager was in Hanoi to pick up the award for the Philippines and she couldn’t believe her ears when she heard her name again! We are also one of the candidates to win the World’s best Dive Resort by the British magazine DIVE. Polls are still open but we are leading right now and we’d love it if you voted. Finally we are nominated for a World Luxury Hotel award in three categories, where we are hoping to win as best Luxury Boutique Resort. Voting hasn’t started yet so watch this space.

Dive Shows

Daniel is spreading the frogfish love

We are very excited that our marine biologist Daniel Geary will be a speaker at a couple of shows this fall – about his favorite animal frogfish. First out is the DRT show in Manila September 8-10, where Atmosphere has its own booth. The second event is the American DEMA show in Orlando on November 1-4 where Atmosphere has a booth as well as an exhibition space with the DOT Philippines. Being a keen frogfish expert, Daniel traveled to Ambon in Indonesia this May, expressively to see and photograph the elusive Psychedelic Frogfish (in the picture). We really hope it makes its way to the Philippines soon!

F&B

Enjoy wine tasting with Ed at Atmosphere

With over 90 wines on our wine list, a dedicated wine cellar and a brand new tasting room in the middle of the restaurant, wine tastings for our guests are a must! Our maître d’ Ed is happy to oblige – just let him know during your stay and he’ll organize it for you. As a perk, the management team had a wine tasting in July and they can confirm that it is an excellent event!

Photographer of the month

Dan Norwood – because cephalopods are awesome!

We love cephalopods (octopus, cuttlefish and squid) here at Atmosphere and each year we eagerly look forward to what we call Octopus October when we see even more of these multiple-armed creatures. Last year, photographer and videographer Dan Norwood visited Atmosphere in October and here are some of his photos: Blue ringed octopus, Mototi octopus, Flamboyant cuttlefish, Mimic octopus, Pygmy squid, Coconut octopus…

PADI Instructor Development

One more batch of PADI Instructors ready to teach this summer

We are proud to present our fourth batch of PADI Instructors taught through Instructor Development Philippines in 2017. It has been a lot of work but also a lot of fun! We can't wait for you to teach - whether it's here in the area or abroad, we know you'll do a fantastic job! We are proud of you, Herence, Karlo, Eugene, Remo & Russ.

An Eco Friendly Atmosphere

At Atmosphere we believe that looking after the environment is key for future generations. We built Atmosphere with this in mind. Design features such as high ceilings and concrete walls help keep the rooms cooler than outside with lower AC. Solar panels were installed for all hot water. Dual flush toilets, power cut-off switches and salt-water chlorinated pools also help. During your stay you may notice other policies: Refill shampoo, lotion and body wash, no plastic bottles and only compostable straws. We’d absolutely love your help as well. Contribute by changing bed sheets and towels only when needed, limiting your AC to around 24 degrees, showering before entering the pools and limit your use of pool towels. We stock local brands in our boutique such as Lumago Designs, Eco Vie and Lalee. These social enterprises commit to protecting the environment and employ locals to handcraft wearable art using recycled materials. Lumago also has an Online Store. We are proud to find ourselves on the list of the 10 most eco-friendly getaways in the Philippines:

Spa update

Rae celebrates 10 years with Atmosphere

Bring out the bubbly! Last month marked Atmosphere’s Spa Manager Rae Collin's 10th year at Atmosphere - what a great reason to celebrate! Rae joined Atmosphere whilst the resort was just being built and one of her first jobs was to build – alas, with some help - our main dive boat Victoria. Over the years Rae has been the Dive Center manager, the Spa Manager and the Resort Manager, as well as the yoga teacher. Here's to another 10 years – and these are some pictures from the party (with Rae in white and pink).

Dive Center News

Snorkeling map – now everyone can find their favorite colorful fish

As much as we love diving and divers here at Atmosphere, there is also so much to see for snorkelers. Many of our guests go to the spectacular Apo Island with all its turtles, but there's also so much to see for snorkelers on our house reef, if you know where to go. To avoid snorkelers swimming around in the boat channel and find the best spots for coral, turtles and lots of pretty fish, we though a proper map might help. You will find it on the Dive Schedule wall in our Dive Centre.
