ABSA DONATES R2M TOWARDS STUDENT FUNDING AT DUT


Absa has donated R2 million towards helping fund students at the Durban University of Technology (DUT).

The Absa 2017 Scholarship Fund forms part of the education and skills development pillar of Barclays Africas’ shared growth strategy through which it has undertaken to invest R1,4 billion towards education and skills training between 2017 and 2018.

DUT Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Thandwa Mthembu received the donation from Absa on behalf of the University.

HUNDREDS OF DUT STUDENTS IN ATTENDANCE AT WOW EXHIBITION

Annually, the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT) Co-Operative Education Department invites various companies from different industries to their World of Work exhibition.

The two-day event gives DUT students an opportunity to interact with their potential employers after graduating at DUT. The 2017 WoW exhibition is no exception as hundreds of DUT students have gathered at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, Steve Biko Campus, to seek more information on their chosen careers and the world of work careers that are available in South Africa.

DUT VICE-CHANCELLOR URGES UNITY IN SKILLS TRAINING

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Thandwa Mthembu emphasised the importance of engagements between industry, government and universities in order to improve youth skills during his welcome speech at the World of Work (WoW) gala dinner held on Tuesday, 1 August 2017 at the University’s Ritson Exam Hall.

According to Professor Mthembu, the success of a country is largely dependent on solid engagements and relationships between the aforementioned partners.

DORASAMY MAKES DUT PROUD

The Durban University of Technology alumni, Mala Dorasamy, who has left an indelible mark in the corporate industry in Durban and has now embarked on a new career path internationally.

With her warm smile and charismatic personality, Dorasamy was a well-known employee at the prestigious Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre. Her decision to leave Durban and her position as the former Marketing, Sales and Events Director at the ICC, was not an easy one as she explains.

FIRST GROUP OF DUT APP WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Several Durban University of Technology (DUT) students will be receiving prizes after they successfully entered the DUT Mobile Application (DUTApp) competition.

The newly, revamped DUTApp was launched in May 2017 at all seven DUT campuses, where scores of students downloaded the application. The competition which has been running since the launch will see at least 15 students receiving prizes during the World of Work (WoW) exhibition held at the DUT Sports Centre, Steve Biko Campus, this week.
