The 9
th West Africa Forum on Internet Governance (WAIGF) which held from the 27
th to 28th, July 2017 at the Golden Tulip Le Diplomate in Cotonou, Benin Republic, the theme was “Digital Security for Socio – Economic Development and Peace”. The WAIGF aims to promote Internet Governance issues in West Africa through a multi-stakeholder process. Nigeria was represented the Convener of the Nigeria Internet Governance Forum (NIGF), who is also the immediate past President of NiRA, Mrs. Mary Uduma as well as the President of NIRA, Revd Sunday Folayan.

AFRINIC 27: AFRINIC TEAM SITE VISIT in NIGERIA

NiRA played host to the AFRINIC Team that came to inspect facilities in the preparation for the AFRINIC 27 meeting, scheduled to hold 27
th November to 2
nd December 2017 in Lagos, Nigeria.
Part of the planned agenda for AFRINIC-27 is to call on the International Community to increase access to information and communications technology and strive to provide universal and affordable access to the Internet in developing countries. There will also be a strong call for the implementation of IPv6 in Africa.
The team took the opportunity to attend the first day of the LCCI ECTEL EXPO 2017 and had the opportunity to interact with eminent personalities in the ICT Industry in Nigeria. The team was warmly received at all locations and received the assurance that Nigeria would successfully host AFRINIC-27.
LCCI ICTEL EXPO 2017

The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry held its 3
rd edition of the Information Communication Technology Expo 2017 from the 25
th to 27
th of July 2017 at the Eko Hotel and Suites, VI Lagos.
The theme for this year’s expo was ‘
’The Digital Economy; strategies for Growth in a Connected World”.
Chief Dr. Mrs. Nike Akande, who is the President of Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry was the host of the event and in attendance also were the Hon. Minister of Communications, Barr. Adebayo Shittu, Hon. Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Hon. Commissioner Lagos State Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Olufemi Odubiyi, members of LCCI, exhibitors and various visitors.
This year’s EXPO provided veritable platforms for comprehensive overview of trends, new ideas, allowed suppliers and providers meet face to face and network with other professionals in the ICT & Telecommunication sector.
NiRA and two of its Accredited Registrars were at the ICTEL EXPO 2017 to showcase and market the .ng brand to participants at the ICTEL EXPO2017.
The ICTEL EXPO is a platform for the various business owners to discuss one on one with potential clients, thereby creating feasibility for customers and their business.
The showcase of various brands and products was one of the highlights of the event. NIRA and two of NIRA Accredited Registrars were able to enlighten visitors about the .ng brand which also gave the registrars the opportunity to promote their various packages.
Successful Candidates Announced for ICANN60 Fellowship

ICANN's mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, an address must be supplied – a name or a number – into the computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world.
For ICANN60, 60 individuals from 50 countries were selected to participate in the ICANN Fellowship program from 28 October-3 November 2017. The successful candidates represent all sectors of society including; Civil, Government, ccTLD operators, Academia, Business Community, Technical, Security, and End User groups.
The Fellowship program seeks to create a broader and more diverse base of knowledgeable constituents with priority given to candidates currently living in underserved and underrepresented communities around the world.

AFRICA DNS FORUM 2017, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Stakeholders from around the globe, in the African Domain name business gathered last week in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, for the 5th edition of the Africa Domain Name System Forum 2017, to discuss the topic:
Taking stock of the Africa DNS Industry and planning ahead. The forum held 26th to 28th july 2017.
The forum follows up on the success of previous fora that had taken place in Africa over the past few years – namely (South Africa-2013, Nigeria-2014, Kenya-2015 and Morocco-2016).
Organized by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (
ICANN),
the Internet Society (ISOC) and Africa Top Level Domains Organization (
AfTLD), this year’s Forum was hosted by the Tanzania Network Information Centre (
tzNIC).
