Learner Graduation 2017
On Saturday, August 5, we celebrated the graduation ceremony of our fifth cohort of ILMers who are on their way to kindergarten in Ravenswood School district in East Palo Alto. The day was marked by smiling faces of over 27 ILMers and their families who were in attendance. Almost 30 additional ILMers graduated this year from the 10BH Program prepared for school. Over the next two years, about 150 more ILMer will complete the 10BH ILM (Intrinsic Learning Motivation) program, ready to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. Check out our press release from earlier this week and event photos here.
Parents and volunteers alike were seen thrilled at the occasion and shared their experience of being a part of the program. One Role Model summed up her experience as, “One of the most wonderful things in my life because I can’t believe that I am actually having an influence not only a child’s year of 2 and 3, but all these years. This is going to be beneficial to him for ever. As much as I enjoy seeing him grow I love to interact with him emotionally. When I arrive, my current learner says Norma, Norma and he runs into my arms and we hug and the smiles that burst on his face. That’s a precious gift 10 Books A Home has given me.”
One parent, who was a part of the program for only five months and then had to quit because they moved down to San Jose, drove all the way to join us at the event and said, “I would really recommend the program to other families who speak Spanish at home, because the program really helped my daughter get comfortable around other people. She is also an only child, so it helped her in getting used to other people”.
We are of course biased, so don’t believe us but believe Kerry Dolan, Assistant Managing Editor with Forbes, who just wrote a raving review of our organization, the graduation ceremony and the support we are receiving from major global philanthropists like Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and Peery Foundation.
