Pastor Nikki's Notions

Dear Friends:
When I was a little girl, I was never a big fan of the beginning of the school year. It wasn’t so much that I didn’t like school, but rather that I just never wanted the wild and free days of summer, those grimy, adventurous times of summer camp to come to an end. I loved practical jokes and climbing trees, water balloons, toasted marshmallows, fireflies and even mosquito bites, skinned knees, and picking sticks out of my hair. I loved the feeling that there was always something new and exciting awaiting me in the wooded hills of the Kettle Moraine. In spite of all of the charms that summer held for me, there was one thing I always loved about the beginning of school: shopping for school supplies. To this day, there are still moments when I long to fill a cart with empty notebooks and folders, brand new pens and pencils, and of course, crayons and markers, choosing each notebook cover, each pen with care, for it would be my companion and a part of my image in the year to come.
School supplies do not only remind us of our childhood, but can also point to the future with all kinds of possibilities. Each time I open a fresh notebook, I feel a small tinge of excitement, considering what might be scrawled upon those pages. What new learnings, what new thoughts and ideas would find shape? What new creation may find its root in this notebook? You see, in many ways, the beginning of a new school year is like much like January 1st because it marks a time of new beginnings and new possibilities. It’s a time of change and transition for many: whether entering a new school or having a new teacher or even just the moving from our summer schedules back into our “normal” routines. We adjust; we adapt; we find flexibility in making the necessary changes.
This Fall at Delafield Presbyterian Church, we find the same call to change and new possibilities. We will likely adjust our Sunday morning schedules, and we will find that there are new opportunities for learning. Sunday September 10 is Rally Day. This is a day for us to celebrate the fact that we have reconvened from all of our varied summer destinations, for all of us to enjoy being together once again. And it’s a time to kick off all of our programs that took a rest during the summer: Back to Sunday school and the choirs, back to Little Dresses for Africa. It’s also a time for new things: a new Sunday School emphasis on creating inter-generational friendships within our church community and including our children in every aspect of our church life, a new monthly teen discussion group, and greater Adult Education opportunities await us in the coming year!
And so, let us come together with our metaphorical blank notebooks in hand to learn about God, and to explore all the ways in which our faith can shape our daily lives. These learning opportunities are not just one more thing on our schedules and to-do lists, but are a way in which we can grow in our relationship with God and as a community of faith. This school year, let us learn our faith together!
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Nikki

Little Dresses Meetings Resume

Our Little Dresses group has had several productive years of sewing for the national Little Dresses for Africa Organization and the Open Arms Orphanage in South Africa.  To date we have sent 332 little dresses to Africa, 50 drawstring backpacks, and 50 new T-shirts.  For use in our church, we made three lap quilts and four busy bags.

Our focus now is sewing pajamas for the orphanage, more little dresses, and who knows what next!

Join us to sew, cut, press, and enjoy fellowship at our meetings held the third Wednesday of each month.  Make note of the dates:  Sept. 20, Oct. 18, Nov. 15, and Dec. 20.  From 12 noon until 4:00 PM in our conference room.

If you have any questions, contact Betty Tills at                                                       262-719-3093.
POTENTIAL ADULT EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY

Has God given you a gift for public speaking? Do you often find yourself participating in theological reflection? Have you ever wondered what goes in to preparing a sermon? Have you ever considered trying your hand at preaching? If you answered “yes” to any or all of these questions, this class might be for you.

Pastor Nikki will offer an adult (and youth!) education class about preaching for anyone who is interested. In order to offer this class, she will need at least 4 interested individuals who will commit to attending all of its sessions. By the end of the class, you will have one sermon which is ready to preach!

A sign-up sheet will be soon be posted on the WORSHIP board in the hallway.  If you have questions, contact Pastor Nikki at pastornikkidpc@gmail.com.
Walk of Faith

Delafield Presbyterian Church encourages you to remember your loved ones, here or gone before us, by purchasing a brick commemorizing them forever.  The bricks are $100 each, and are engraved with their names and installed in our Walk of Faith under the arbor at the South entrance of the church.

The application for purchasing a brick are available in the literature racks by the mailboxes in the West entry or on the Deacon's Table in the Fellowship Hall.

Checks should be made out to Delafield Presbyterian Church with a note in the memo line designating "Walk of Faith", and turned in to the IN-BOX on the Deacon's Table no later than October 1st.

The celebration for Walk of Faith will be on Sunday, November 5, following our Day of Remembrance, All Saint's Day.

If you have any questions, contact Rosie Lawson or Stacia Faith.

Again, we'll need all the help you can offer in one of the following ways: we need young bodies and STRONG backs to help move furniture before and after the event; we'll need people to help lay out booth spaces, clean up following the event, bakers to bring goods to sell, chili makers, and kitchen help.

A sign-up sheet will be posted in mid August for you to designate where you prefer to help.  Any questions you have should be directed to Carol Buech; 262-327-8277, or via email; cbuech@wi.rr.com.
Many Thanks!

DPC has been very busy lately!  We want to take a moment to thank everyone who helped make the following ministry programs successful:

· Brat Shed sales raised over $350 for our local food pantries.

· Back-to-School collection for the Knoll Crest children.  Please see the Deacons bulletin board for thank you cards from these families.

· Loaves and Fishes.  Over 80 meals were provided to those in need at the Hope Center in Waukesha.  We received many thanks and compliments about how good everything tasted!

· Family Promise provided 3 families with food, shelter, and fellowship.  These families are very thankful for the kindness and assistance provided.
Mark your Calendars!!!!!

Rally Day is Sunday, September 10!

The Congregation of Delafield Presbyterian Church appreciates your serving in the nursery on the date indicated.  When you are serving in the nursery, please arrive at the church 20 minutes early.  While we now employ an every-Sunday nursery worker, our nursery has become increasingly busy.  Therefore, as always your services remain critical.  Please arrange an exchange with someone from this list if you cannot serve on your scheduled date.
PLEASE SAVE THIS CALENDAR FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
To The DPC Congregation:

PLEASE REPLY ASAP!  IT ONLY TAKES A MINUTE!

The Worship and Music Ministry Team in conjunction with Pastor Nikki and Joyce Block would like to elicit some information from members of our church family. This information will help us to develop worship and music services that more fully meet the desire and needs of the congregation. We are seeking information in the following areas:

Music – We would like to know who in the congregation has musical talent, be it instrumental, vocal or both. If you have a musical talent, are you willing to share that talent on a regular or occasional basis in worship service?  Both the vocal and bell choirs could use additional members who would be welcomed in to either or both choirs. There is also opportunity to participate in special musical offerings. Please let us know if you have a musical talent, what that talent is, and if you are willing to share it with the congregation. Youth are welcome to participate in the music programs of DPC.

Congregational member participation in worship service – We would like to develop a list of those individuals that are willing to serve as liturgists. This is an easy task as everything is printed for the liturgist to read. Additionally we would like to develop a list of individuals who are willing to deliver comments or thoughts on specific topics as was done by several people in the Good Friday service and/or individuals who would be willing to deliver the entire message for a service. Youth are invited to participate in these activities. Pastor Nikki will conduct training on how to prepare a sermon for interested individuals.

Ushers – We would like to develop a core team of ushers. We will be revising the usher schedule and are asking you to indicate if you would like to participate by serving as an usher or would rather not serve as an usher. Youth are welcome to serve as ushers. Now is the time to make your desire known. We will provide training in usher duties for those desiring it.
Communion servers and preparers – In recent years we have relied on volunteers to prepare and serve Communion. In recent months it has been difficult to find volunteers for this very important function. Please tell us if you are willing to be placed on a list of individuals who will prepare and/or serve Communion. We will provide training on both preparation and serving for those who desire it.

Worship and Sanctuary Advisory Team – We would like to bring together a group of talented individuals to participate in the design and implementation of sanctuary décor, and also to be involved in the development of services for those special Sundays such as Rally Day, Advent, Easter, etc. If you have an interest in participating in this team please let us know.

Please provide the requested information to Carol Snyder (snyder.carol@gmail.com) or Bob Faith (robert.faith@att.net).
