DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE HYMN? Let Sarah Bereza, our organist, know! This summer we're singing hymn favorites in addition to the hymns related to each week's lectionary readings. You can email your favorite to Sarah at sarah.bereza@gmail.com or you can leave a message for her at the church office.

NEPAL MISSION TRIP PRESENTATION AND LUNCH - We are back from our humanitarian mission trip to Kathmandu, Nepal and the experience was absolutely beautiful and successful beyond our wildest hopes.  God's love was palpable and our community in His service expanded across the world AND within our very own city through the connections we made.  We could not have undertaken this service trip without your support and want to share EVERYTHING with you.  Please mark your calendars and join us on August 27th after church for a lunch and presentation.

With deepest gratitude,
Erika, Avery, Debbie & McKenzie

ORGAN RE-DEDICATION, SEPTEMBER 10, 2017
The night of July 14, 2016 a severe storm blew through the Clifton Community in Cincinnati and left trees and power lines down.  It also damaged the roof over the Netting building of immanuel Presbyterian Church, allowing water to pour in the Sunday School/Preschool rooms and Parlor, as well as damage the pipes of the Schantz organ.

The Schantz Organ Company has had a rich history.  It was founded in 1878 by A. J. Tschantz.  It is the largest and oldest American pipe organ builder and still under the management of the founding family. The company continues to build and install organs throughout the country.  They are designed and made in Orrville, Ohio.

Immanuel Presbyterian Church installed a Schantz organ in its sanctuary in 1968.  This wonderful organ has had a rich music history at Immanuel.  There have been many Sunday services blessed with beautiful organ music.  This instrument has been part of many concerts and other music presentations with the Immanuel choir and students from College-Conservatory of Music or CCM (University of Ccincinnati).  Another interesting part of the music history at Immanuel was a dedicated and faithful organist, Betty Hoensch.  She was Immanuel's organist for 48 years; from Palm Sunday, 1944, until Palm Sunday 1992. On a Sunday morning in 1968, she had the great pleasure of playing the first chords of Immanuel's new Schantz organ.

After months of the complete organ unable to be used, the organ has been restored by Schaedle Pipe Organ Services in Cincinnati, Ohio.  To celebrate this wonderful instrument again being played, we plan to re-dedicate the organ on Sunday, September 10, 2017.  Please come and hear our organist, Sarah Bereza, play the beautiful sounds of this wonderful pipe organ.

OUR ORGANIST, Sarah Bereza, writes a blog about Music and the Church. Each week she chooses a hymn based on the lectionary readings for the week and tells something about who wrote it, when it was written, and other interesting information about the hymn.  This week's hymn is "O God of Every Nation".  The text of this week's post is included below.  You are encouraged to go to the link listed above and learn more about the hymns we sing in worship.Copy of Copy of Copy of Copy of Blessed Jesus, At Your Word-10.png

This week's hymn, "O God of Every Nation," is a prayer for justice and peace—a prayer for peace whose foundation is justice—a prayer for the "good and pleasant" community described in this Sunday's Psalm where "kindred live together in unity."

Here's the second stanza: "From search for wealth and power and scorn of truth and right,
from trust in bombs that shower destruction through the night, from pride of race and nation
and blindness to your way, deliver every nation, eternal God, we pray."

May this be our prayer today and every day.

Here's a link to the whole hymn text. To listen and sing along, check out this recording of congregational singing and this trumpet and organ trio.

Get in touch on Facebook or Twitter. I'd love to hear from you!

Singing through the Year features a hymn related to next Sunday's readings from the Revised Common Lectionary. Each hymn will be sung at Immanuel Presbyterian Church (Cincinnati, Ohio) where I am the organist.
