Sierra Leone
Mudslide Disaster Continues
The search for survivors of the mudslide in Sierra Leona continues as the official death toll rises to 245. Numbers are expected to grow significantly as hundreds of people are still missing. Though heavy rain is usually a blessing at this time of the year, the force of these rains caused such torrents of mud that many of the weakly constructed buildings have been buried and collapsed.

Iran
Tension with Tehran
Irani President Hassan Rouhani has threatened to restart his country's nuclear operations should the U.S. impose any more sanctions on him. This act would terminate the 2015 Nuclear Deal signed between Iran and the U.S. Iran has stated that it is justified in restarting its operations because the U.S. has violated the Nuclear Deal many times through economic sanctions. Iran still claims that its nuclear program is peaceful and designed to create energy, not weapons, and is preparing to restart factories mining for nuclear components in the town of Arak.

Afghanistan
A Request from the Taliban
The Taliban has released an open letter to President Donald Trump to withdraw all U.S. Troops from Afghanistan and to cease military activity in the area. The Taliban claims that "previous experiences have shown sending more troops to Afghanistan will not result in anything other than further destruction of American military and economical might." They referred to the Afghan government as "lying corrupt officials" and urged President Trump not to believe in their "rosy pictures" of the situation in Afghanistan. This letter comes right before the finalization of a NATO-led coalition that could send out up to 4,000 U.S. troops to Afghanistan.
