Project Happenings

Keeping San Francisco Nonprofit-Friendly

It’s well-known that the Bay Area real estate market can provide real affordability challenges for nonprofits. To address this, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee recently announced $2.7 million in assistance will be made available for neighborhood-serving nonprofits to offset real-estate costs, and Community Initiatives client The Healing WELL received a grant for $70,000. Healing WELL’s Community Initiatives Project Manager helped them apply, and eventually win, a grant to stay in place where their programs are making the most difference.

New Resource: Immigrants Rising

Educators for Fair Consideration just launched a new website with that consolidates resources for immigrants interested in entrepreneurship. The site, Immigrants Rising, provides resources, knowledge and financial support for immigrant entrepreneurs, regardless of legal status, at any stage of their journey, and provides a comprehensive overview of the entrepreneurship landscape in the U.S. through webinars, handouts and guides.

Infrastructure Grant for El/La Para TransLatina

El/La Para TransLatinas recently received a $50K grant from the SF Foundation as part of $11.5 million in grants the Foundation recently awarded, “To strengthen El/La Para TransLatinas’ infrastructure by developing internal systems that build the capacity of TransLatinas to advocate for services as well as criminal justice and immigration reforms for the community.”

Changing Lives: One Day at a Time

Brentwood-based One Day at A Time program participant Jose Cordon’s success story was recently featured in The Press. “It’s not like I changed overnight,” Cordon said. “But they planted a seed, and it would need time to grow. I’ve been very blessed to have people around me who have loved me and guided me along the way.”
