With the start of the academic year just weeks away, it's time for an update on what HLSB is offering in the fall term!

The U of M group classes are free for trial the week of September 11 so mark it in your calendars!

Passed My Associate Level Exam!
For the first two weeks of August I was training with Jane Edgett in Halifax in preparation for the next level of professional ballroom dance teaching certification through the Canadian Dancesport Federation! I'm excited to share that I am now an Associate member of the organization!

Outgames That Didn't Happen
In late May I headed off to the Outgames in Miami and some of you may have heard that they were abruptly cancelled, leaving many of us confused and angry. (Here's the CBC article on what happened)

Since many of the dancesport competitors (most of whom from Europe) and judges were already in Miami, we got together and found the resources to hold our own competition. I've used some of my favorite pictures from the impromptu competition in this newsletter but if you're interested in seeing more, checkout this album.

Private Lessons!
Private lesson openings at my Osborne Village studio location are available starting Saturday September 9. I am starting to get bookings through to November so please contact me soon to make a booking and avoid disappointment. Cost is $50/55 minutes (heads up, this rate will be increasing in January).

Beginner Ballroom (standard) classes @ U of M

Want some basic steps for the dance floor? Look no further, this class is for the beginner dancer! We will be covering the classic ballroom dances of social foxtrot and international style waltz and quickstep. Tango will also be briefly introduced in this class. These four dances are easy to learn and provide students with a breadth of dance moves to a variety of music. Lead and follow numbers cannot be guaranteed.

Time: 6:45-8 pm
Date: Wednesdays, Sept 20 - Dec 6 (Free trial class Sept 13) (12 weeks)

Beginner Latin Classes @ U of M

You will learn the basic steps of Latin Ballroom dances including international style cha-cha, rumba, jive and samba. These dances are a lot of fun and can be used in a variety of social settings. Lead and follow numbers cannot be guaranteed.

International and Argentine Tango Class @ U of M

Many can identify the characteristic tango music. Did you know that there are several styles of tango? In this class we will cover the basics of Argentine tango and International style tango. Come learn the intricate swivels and fancy footwork of Argentine tango and then contrast it with the staccato and sharp actions of international style tango. Lead and follow numbers cannot be guaranteed.

Intermediate Ballroom Classes @ U of M

This class is for those who have taken the beginner ballroom dance class or have previous ballroom dance experience. Instruction will focus more on technique and advanced steps to two or three dances, to be decided by the class. Lead and follow numbers cannot be guaranteed.
