Believe it or not, we are gearing up for our next round of health assessments! They will be similar to previous ones in that random surveys will be given to evaluate community health related issues and adults and parents of children/youth will be surveyed. Look for more information coming soon and thank you all for your continued commitment to this partnership and to improving health outcomes for Delaware County citizens!

Partnership Co-Chair

Helpline Executive Director

Partnership members met in June to go over questions for the upcoming adult health assessment survey.

#GoHealthyDelawareCounty
One part of the Access to Care action plan is to implement coordinated public health messages. A plan to coordinate messages through a universal hashtag has been proposed and will be shared with Partnership members for their own use.

#GoHealthyDelawareCounty will be strategically used by Partners who wish to get a certain health message out through social media platforms. This hashtag will link partners with a common goal while still maintaining their individual branding standards.

Maryhaven Offers Family Program for Families Dealing with Addiction
Maryhaven has developed the Families in Recovery Program to provide education, training and counseling support to families that are confronted with substance abuse problems.

Chronic substance abuse can have devastating effects on families. Although concerned, others are often motivated to get help in persuading the substance abuser to seek treatment; they are often in dire need of help themselves. These negative effects include declines in psychological and social adjustment, deterioration in relationships, loss of family cohesion, and increased interpersonal conflict, including domestic violence.

We are pleased to share with the community Maryhaven’s Families in Recovery Program offers both individual counseling and family counseling services. A unique part of this program is the fact that families can access these services even if their family member is not currently in treatment with Maryhaven.

Thanks to funding provided by Delaware and Morrow Mental Health and Recovery Services Board, participation in our Families in Recovery Program is without cost and available to anyone residing in either Delaware or Morrow Counties.

Improving Indoor Air Quality
Jacqueline Langhals, representative from Focus on Green gave a presentation on ways organizations can improve indoor air quality at our March Partnership meeting. She said that we spend about 90% of our time indoors, and our physical environment impacts our health more than lifestyle, medical care and genetics.  The Wells Building standards include improving indoor air quality by:
  • Air quality standards-limits set on volatile, and particulate matter and inorganic gases
  • Air filtration maintenance-keep records of air filtration maintenance
  • Cooling Coil Mold Reduction-Ultraviolet lamps on cooling coils and drains pans to control mold
  • Humidity control-Keep relative humid between 30%-50%
  • Engine exhaust  reduction-policy preventing idling cars
  • Entryway air seal-building entry vestibule
  • Outdoor smoking ban-25 feet from entrance
  • Interior paints, finishes and other coatings-meet Volatile Organic Chemical (VOC) limits
  • Window operation management-discourage opening windows during unfavorable weather conditions
  • Asbestos, and leads-abatement in accordance with U.S. EPA guidelines

Teen Leadership Opportunities
PEACE is a collaboration of school and community partners, working together to promote prevention education in Delaware County schools. The guiding vision for the coalition is youth are healthy, safe & engaged in their community. With the 2016/2017 Delaware County Youth Risk Behavior Survey complete, prevention partners want to hear directly from teens about issues they see in their community. The Youth Advisory Board will work alongside community partners to brainstorm ideas on how to improve adolescent health across Delaware County schools.
