Mayor's Message
Mayor Diane Marlin shares her monthly message from the recently completed North Lincoln Avenue in Urbana. The newly completed road increases accessibility to bicyclists thanks to the addition of wide smoothly paved shoulders, provides connectivity between the I-74 and I-57 corridors, and serves business and residents in the area through linkage to Olympian Drive via an new overpass over the railroad. We're on the move in Urbana and Mayor Diane Marlin invites you to come along for the ride.

Building Safety Division Launches Citizenserve Online Program

The City of Urbana recently launched a new online system for managing building permits, code enforcement, and other request tracking. Using a cloud-based program called Citizenserve, many of the City’s Building Safety-related applications, requests for payment, and customer request forms, are now available online. In addition, Citizenserve will now provide the capability to accept both tenant and neighborhood complaints online. Learn more here.

C-U Folk & Roots Festival

The 9th Annual Champaign-Urbana Folk and Roots Festival takes place November 2-4, 2017 and brings together national, regional, and local artists and folk organizations for over 80 performances and activities throughout downtown Urbana. The festival includes performances, dances, instructional sessions, jams, song-circles, family activities, storytelling, instrument-making, and more. Learn more here.

Community Benefit Fund Accepting Applications

The UC2B Community Benefit Fund is accepting applications focusing on improving digital inclusion and digital equity for low- to moderate-income people in the Champaign-Urbana area. In 2018, the UC2B Board anticipates awarding a total of up to $150,000 (collectively) in grants to community-based applicants. Applications are due on Wednesday, November 15th. Urbana Art Expo

The Urbana Public Arts Program and Commission and 40 North: Champaign County Arts Council welcome you to attend the third annual Urbana Art Expo, a juried fine art sale and exhibition in downtown Urbana, Illinois. Join us and show your support for local art! The Expo will take place on Sunday, November 19 from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Urbana Civic Center, 108 E. Water Street in Urbana. Learn more here.

America Recycles Day

Rub-a-dub-dub, 3 R's in the Tub!  How can you Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in the bathroom - the most overlooked room in the house when it comes to recycling?  Join U-Cycle and the Urbana Park District to learn what you can do with toiletries and bottles at the America Recycles Day event at the Anita Purves Nature Center (1505 N Broadway Ave) on Saturday, November 4, 2017.   Here are the details.

Market IN the Square

This month the Urbana Business Association will kick off their 2017-2018 season of Market IN the Square. This weekly farmers market extends the outdoor farmers market season by bringing local growers and makers inside Lincoln Square. New in 2017 is a Saturday AND Sunday option for shopping local! Saturday market hours will run 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. and Sunday market hours will run 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. (Continue reading here.)

America Recycles Day
November 6, 2017
Join the City of Urbana for the North Lincoln Avenue Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 6th. The ceremony will take place at the intersection of Olympian Drive and Lincoln Avenue (east leg) with parking available along the shoulder. (more)

In observance of the Veteran's Day Holiday all City offices and the Landscape Recycling Center will be closed on November 10, 2017. 
America Recycles Day
November 12, 2017
The inaugural running of Mile at the Pines will take place on November 12th at 1 p.m. along Philo Road, adjacent to The Pines shopping center. There will be nine different mile waves - a race for every class of runners (or walkers). The event also honors Veteran's Day with special awards to the top three military male and female finishers. (more)

Veteran's Day Image

In observance of the the Thanksgiving holiday all City offices and the Landscape Recycling Center will be closed on Thursday, November 23rd and Friday, November 24th. 
URBANA FIRE DEPARTMENT
 
The Urbana Fire Department recognized four staff members at a recent formal Badge Pinning Ceremony. Promotions included the following: Matt Ennis to the rank of Lieutenant, Trent Short to the rank of Lieutenant, Mike Jannusch to the rank of Engineer, and Jeff Orr to the rank of Engineer. LANDSCAPE RECYCLING CENTER
Bring us your leaves! Bring us your branches! Area residents, commercial landscapers, and haulers who bring leaves or branches to the Landscape Recycling Center now through December 2nd can receive a 20% coupon to use when buying LRC products. More details here.
URBANA HUMAN RESOURCES DIVISION
 
Over 50 individuals were recognized for their years of dedication and service as as employees of the City of Urbana. Recognition begins at five years of service and continues thereafter in five year increments. Click here to see the employees recognized for there service.
URBANA POLICE DEPARTMENT

With the holidays approaching the community is reminded of the Urbana Police Department's free Vacation Watch Program. This services provides for officers to periodically check your residence when you're out of the area. To learn more or to be added to the watch click here.
In this month's edition of It's All About "U", co-hosts Natalie Kenny Marquez and Sterling Bollman lace up their running shoes to talk about the upcoming "Mile at the Pines" race on November 12th. They also visit with Chris Catanzarite of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and learn about the upcoming Urbana Art Expo with Urbana Public Arts Coordinator Rachel Storm. They finish up the show talking with Urbana Fire Marshal Phil Edwards.
