Runners will be asked to run in groups of two to four and work as a team to find the answers to three questions that they will be given. The answers to the questions will all be based on landmarks situated in the area around the clubhouse (each park is approximately 1.7km from the club).

There will be champagne for the more serious (drinkers) runners afterwards... Groups will have 1 hour and 30 minutes in which to find all three answers.

Please wear something colourful and fun to celebrate Spring. Prizes will be given for the Springiest runners and the winning group.

Comrades 2018 Magnolia Medal Bus

Would you like to be part of a unique “bus and running experience” for the 2018 Comrades Marathon? The idea is to get as many Magnolia members as possible with a Green number to run together from start to finish. To make the bus unique we will run with a banner indicating the total number of medals in the “bus”.  Name for the banner is still be determined but it will be something like, “Magnolia 150 Comrades Medal Bus”.

To accommodate all runners, our objective is to finish around 11 ½ hours. This might be a difficult decision for the faster runners as you would have to substitute your Bill Rowan/Bronze medal for an 11 ½ finish. As far as we are aware, it is has never been attempted before to get a larger number of green numbers to finish together. This will mean that you will be part of something unique. You will be running and completing the Comrades with friends, all with a common goal to finish as a group. Some of our members have stopped running long distances but still would like to be part of this unique “bus” and are tempted to run again next year.

Our aim is to get as many medals as possible and would like to get 150+ medals.

To be part of this bus, you must:

  • Have a green number (completed 10 Comrades marathons or more)
  • Start in the E block.
  • Be a Magnolia member and run in Magnolia club colours on the day.
  • Start and end with the “bus”.

If you would like to be part of this unique bus please send an e-mail to Kenny at ske@lantic.net with the following information (this will also indicate if this initiative is viable):
  • Name and surname
  • Number of Comrades medals
  • Cellphone number

Magnolia 100 Marathon Club

There have been inquiries regarding recognition to Magnolia members who have successfully completed 100 Marathons or Ultra Marathons. All eligible names will be displayed on an honorary board at the Club house.

To qualify for this selective club at Magnolia please provide a spreadsheet or copy of your Log Book of all marathons and ultra-marathons you have completed, including the race date, name of the race and finishing time. For example 40 ultra-marathons and 60 marathons will be recognized as the 100 races. Please forward the details to Ronald Lagerwall (Ronald.Lagerwall@resbank.co.za) for consideration and indicate the year in which you have completed your 100th marathon as well.

The board will be updated after 7 July.

TRAIN HARDER, RECOVER FASTER

Thank you

Thank you to Dirk Olivier for doing the club tent at the Castle Walk and the Wierie road race. We are not always aware of the challenges Dirk faces to get the club tent at the venue for us. And despite this he still does it even if it means only 5 runners come to the club tent.
