THOUSANDS ATTENDED DUT’S 3RD ANNUAL SILENT PROTEST


Various students from KwaZulu-Natal universities joined forces for the Durban University of Technology’s third Annual Silent Protest against Gender-Based Violence, on Wednesday, 16 August 2017.

The silent protest is a national event where various universities in different provinces come together to spread awareness against any form of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). In KwaZulu-Natal, DUT works together with the Aids Healthcare Foundation (AHF) and the different institutions in the province to spread awareness on the silencing of GBV victims.

GREAT OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENT ENTREPRENEURS

The Durban University of Technology through its Centre for Social Entrepreneurship (CSE) hosted its first Entrepreneurship Pitching Workshop which attracted over twenty students selected from a pool of over 300 applicants at Ritson Campus Hotel School on Tuesday, 15 August 2017.

This event was in line with the call from the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) to universities to host entrepreneurship events in August. CSE has partnered with different stakeholders within and outside the university community to adhere to the call.

GWALA RETURNS FROM NATIONAL SAB LEAGUE

DUT football striker Thembinkosi Gwala has returned from a brilliant successful national tournament that was held in Soweto, Johannesburg in July 2017.

The third year Sport Studies Management student from Tshelimnyama in Pinetown was the only student from the DUT’s Boys Football team to be selected to be part of the University Sport South Africa’s (USSA) national team to play for the SAB League.

SABC CONSULTS DUT AUDIENCE FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO RESHAPE POLICIES

Looking at reviewing the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC’s) 2004 editorial policies is currently the reason behind the public hearings being held in every province in South Africa, where the audience, community organisations and the general public are being given the opportunity to contribute to shaping the SABC’s editorial policies through oral or written submissions by 31 August 2017.

The SABC has begun with its road show workshop where SABC representatives such as Kaizer Kganyago, Thandeka Mbeki, Fikile Skosana, Zamambo Mkhize, Bongani Mpanza and Alvin Pillay

MEMELA AND LANGA ARE THE NEW MR AND MISS DUT 2017/18 

Sanele Memela and Zandile Langa were crowned Mr and Miss DUT 2017/18 at the annual glittering event held at the Fred Crookes Sports Centre, presented by the Department of Student Governance and the Student Representative Council (SRC) on Friday (11 August 2017).

The crowning of Memela and Langa comes after the 21 finalists underwent a hectic photo-shoot and a grueling pre-judging session. The excited and overwhelmed winners are determined to make a difference during their reign.
