Suspect Denies Allegations
An American man was arrested this week on suspicion that he was the jogger who had pushed a woman into the path of an oncoming bus on London Bridge in May. Eric Bellquist, a financier for a private equity firm in London, was arrested and immediately released on bail the next day. Bellquist's lawyers made a statement that they have irrefutable proof Bellquist was not in the country during the attack.

Contamination Crisis
Eggs contaminated with the insecticide Fipronil have been sold in vast quantities all over Europe. While it is still unclear how this happened, authorities believe Fipronil is found in a disinfectant used to keep chickens healthy and has somehow entered the eggs those chickens laid. The eggs have reached 15 countries so far, including China. The eggs were produced predominantly in the Netherlands, but some of the contaminated products can also be traced back to Germany, Belgium, and France. 2 people have been arrested for allowing the Fipronil to be in such close proximity to the chickens.

This map shows the region of northwest continental Europe where most of the contaminated eggs were produced. Click on the map to expand.

Pumping System Crisis
Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards declared a state of emergency in New Orleans yesterday after a power shortage threatened the city's drainage pumps. This is the second time in less than a week that the city's flood defenses have been strained during hurricane season. Last Saturday's heavy storm left hundreds of homes and businesses flooded. A substation fire knocked out a primary source of power for the drainage pipes early Thursday. This power outage is diminishing electricity for the pumps which serve the Eastern bank of the city. The city is left with just one primary source of electricity to power its pumps what with three other turbine stations out of service for repairs.

This map shows businesses and residences which were flooded this week. Click on the map to learn more.
