Florida Voices for Immigration Reform (FVIR)
Dear Senator Rubio:

As you are aware, Florida Voices for Immigration Reform is a coalition of faith, business and law enforcement communities based in Palm Beach County, Florida which since 2009 has been acting as a bridge between Republicans and Democrats so that Congress can address our antiquated immigration system in a bi-partisan fashion and give our nation a system that promotes legal migration, makes us globally competitive for the 21st century and humanely deals with those already here.  Our coalition firmly believes as well that bringing the 11 million undocumented immigrants out of the shadows with legalization will help our national security, since we will once and for all know who is here. Please visit www.fvirpbc.com for more information on our coalition.

We have always believed that the answer to this critical policy issue had to be found by Congress, yet given Congressional inaction in the House in 2014 our coalition was in favor of the administration's deferred action program. Our coalition also wrote to the bi- partisan deficit committee in 2012 making the case that immigration reform will help reduce our deficit. http://fvirpbc.com/letter_2_bipartisan_committee.shtml

We are aware that Texas and 10 other states have urged the administration of President Trump to repeal DACA- the executive action that protects certain people that arrived as children, are currently studying or obtained a high school or GED degree and pass criminal background checks.   We urge you to take the leadership you always have on immigration and help find a legislative solution for all these kids, our kids. We are open to either the Dream Act that has been introduced in a bi-partisan fashion in the Senate and the House, or Representative Curbelo's  Recognizing America's Children (RAC) Act. https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/1468.

We understand the need to protect our borders and promote legal migration, yet we also know the urgent need in our communities to attend at the same time to the plight of those covered under the DACA program and thereafter the legalization of those already here, since 5 million of the 11 million among us are parents of United States citizens.

We thank you for your commitment to sensible immigration reform and let you know that you can count on this coalition to promote immigration reform that we hope is adopted by Congress as soon as possible, since immigration policy affects our children, families, cities, counties, state, nation and foreign relations.
