Meet Our Partner
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) provides national guidance and advice to improve health and social care. Our aim is to improve outcomes for people using the NHS, social care and public health services across England. We produce guidance, based on the best available evidence, for practitioners. We develop quality standards and performance metrics for commissioners and providers, and a range of information services for anyone working in health and care. NICE topics of relevance to adult social care include learning disabilities, transition between care settings, home care, mental wellbeing of older people, managing medicines in care homes and in community settings, dementia for example. See www.nice.org.uk for further information. Contact Annie Coppel, Associate Director – Field Team (North) annie.coppel@nice.org.uk

Have you see the Quick Guides? Developed jointly by NICE and SCIE the guides cover key points on social care topics that are relevant to specific audiences. For example, better home care for older people: a quick guide for people who arrange their own home care; and recognising and preventing delirium: a quick guide for care home managers. Developed in response to feedback from the social care sector, they are an easy way to access key information from NICE on social care topics in a simple format. Available online and also in PDF

In a new guideline, out for public consultation, NICE says adults who need social care should feel in control and be able to live life as they want. This guideline ‘People’s experience in adult social care services; improving the experience of care for people using adult social care services’ is out for public consultation until 3 October 2017.
