Smile please
Perth Prison held a two hour “Back-to-School” session before the schools went back after summer. This was an opportunity for children to come to the Prison and show Dad their new school uniforms and get a photograph taken with him.
Laura and Lillian from CrossReach’s Perth Prison Visitor Support and Advice Centre, together with Families Outside staff, were in the visiting room in HMP Perth to help out. They said it was a great afternoon for the children and a super opportunity for them to get their picture taken with Dad. For many, this was the only time they would have had a picture taken with their Dad since he went to prison as cameras are not normally allowed into the prison.
Dads were allowed to wear civvies whcih made the family photos a lot more natural.
The families also had an opportunity to make several different craft items, including two foam picture frames for the photographs; one for Dad and one for the family.
The afternoon was a great success and was rounded off with the families sharing a hot meal together.
It is important for the children, as well as the Dads, to maintain family relationships, and sessions like this create a more natural atmosphere for the children to have quality time together as a family.

Mony a mickle macks a muckle
For the past 15 years, George has been putting any money he’s found on the street into a jar and saving it up. Recently, he decided to cash it all in and was surprised with how much was there!
George kindly decided to give it to CrossReach and so partner with us in working with those who look to CrossReach for some support. We were therefore delighted to receive the amazing sum of £77 as a result of George's "street collecting".
The streets might not be littered with gold, but it’s amazing how much all the loose change adds up to!

Smiles and laughter are the same in any language
The Mum in the above picture attends CrossReach's Loc de Joaca (A place to play) in Govanhill, Glasgow. She uses the pictures in a popular children's book to read and translate the book for her children.
The Scottish Book Trust captured this moment on film when they joined us at a CrossReach Daisy Chain Early Years Project Loc de Joaca session for Romanian Roma Families.

CrossReach will be at "Sleep in the Park", a mass sleep-out event to end homelessness taking place overnight Saturday 9 December in Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh.
