Monday, Nov. 20: City Council meeting canceled because of City Council elections. Swearing in of the new City Council and re-elected council members will be at the Nov. 27 meeting.

Cooking oil recycling
Turn that used vegetable cooking oil into biodiesel during Lakewood's annual vegetable oil recycling event, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. on Nov. 25 at the Quail Street Recycling Center, 1068 Quail St. Details at Lakewood.org/recycling.

Energy partnership
Lakewood and Xcel Energy are taking a new approach to a partnership on energy-related initiatives to achieve shared goals. Read about the effort in the latest Lakewood Sustainability e-newsletter at Lakewood.org/SustainabilityNews.

Lakewood Lights 
Join us at Lakewood Heritage Center for a free family event. Enjoy twinkling lights, holiday treats, tractor-pulled hay wagon rides and photos with Santa. Lakewood Lights is Dec. 1, with the Mayor's Tree Lighting at 6 p.m. If you can’t make it then, come 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Dec. 2. Time for Stocking Stuffers
Perennial favorites, Timothy P. & the Rocky Mountain Stocking Stuffers have become a Lakewood Cultural Center holiday tradition, playing entertaining arrangements of original music and holiday favorites with a generous dose of humor and maybe even some special guests during concerts Dec. 1-3. Got broken holiday lights?
Recycle your old, broken and unused string of lights during Lakewood’s annual Holiday Recycling event, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. from Nov. 24 through Jan. 21 at the Quail Street Recycling Center, 1068 Quail St. Details at Lakewood.org/Recycling

Awards highlight resilient students
Jeffco Schools Foundation has honored four students, three teachers and a principal for their dedication, enthusiasm and fortitude that make them heroes. The students have overcome challenges ranging from battling a serious illness to coming to school even after spending the night in a park because of homelessness. Students received scholarships to Red Rocks Community College, while faculty members were selected for their innovative work and dedication to the profession. Watch a video about the recipients on JPS-TV’s YouTube channel.

Fast and furious
Is 40 West Arts District in Lakewood important to you? One of the best ways to help continue its mission is to buy a ticket to RIOT VI: Fast & Furious. The annual fundraising gala is 6:30-10 p.m. on Dec. 8 at the Intrigue Auto Collection. Details at 40WestArts.org.


Adopt a senior sweetheart

Foothills Animal Shelter, along with many other shelters, celebrates November as Adopt a Senior Pet Month. Senior animals that are 7 years old and older are often overlooked when people are searching for the perfect pet to bring home, but adopting a senior animal has many benefits. This month that includes discounted adoption fees for senior pets. Details at FoothillsAnimalShelter.org.

Lace up for skating
The Rink at Belmar, the coolest place for ice skating, is open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. in Belmar Plaza. Details at BelmarColorado.com.

National Adoption Day
Each year, during the week before Thanksgiving courtrooms open their doors to families waiting to have their adoptions finalized. Many of these children have been waiting for years in foster care to finally have some place to call home. On Nov. 18, Jefferson County will celebrate National Adoption Day by finalizing adoptions of 18 children into 16 families.
