Here are a few things we wanted to share this month:
1
TRANSMISSION
Last time round we told you about our delivery plan. Our plan, and progress so far, featured on ITV Tyne Tees earlier this week, as well as in a recent Yorkshire Post piece from the Education Secretary, Justine Greening.
Scalby School and East Whitby Academy both featured in the Tyne Tees report, with great examples of work they are doing with pupils. Scalby's successful "World of Work" day follows on from a mock interview day for Year 11 pupils at Ebor Filey Academy and Enterprise Training at George Pindar School - all supported through the Opportunity Area programme.
A big thanks must go to NYBEP and the Careers and Enterprise Company for delivering these opportunities. Their next big event is a careers fair at Graham School on 29th November. Contact our Enterprise Co-ordinator, Andrew Davies, to find out how you can get invovled.

ASSOCIATE RESEARCH SCHOOLS
The North Yorkshire Coast Research School has launched their Associate Research School scheme.
Do you know a teacher who thrives on understanding what works in improving teaching and learning? Up to 8 schools will be invited to have a member of staff working with the research school to: find good research; train others in using evidence-based practice; complete research and be involved in CPD. This will be funded for the spring and summer term 2018 - £3,000 per successful school. Contact Kate Towse to find out more.

FUNDING ALLOCATED
The Programme's Partnership Board allocated funding to the first set of projects at the November meeting.
- £50,000 to improve the quality of early years education in settings and reception classes using the Sustained Shared Thinking and Emotional Wellbeing Scale (SSTEW). This will focus on areas of the greatest need and lead to setting and individual-level development plans.
- £10,000 to support young people with special educational needs into work or work based training. We're partnering with the National Development Team for Inclusion and North Yorkshire County Council to put on events and activities that create supported pathways into employment.

NATIONAL PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
We're in the process of contacting all schools to put candidates forward for funded places on the newly reformed National Professional Qualifications for school leaders. As an Opportunity Area, DfE are offering a significant number of these qualifications on a fully funded basis at middle (NPHML), senior (NPQSL), head (NPQH) and executive head (NPQEL) levels. The approved providers for these reformed qualifications are here and include a range of locally based and national providers.

#successfulfutures
8 years in, Scarborough Engineering Week continues to inspire students and their families to consider the exciting options available to them in science, technology, engineering and maths. 3,000 students took part this year's event in October, making that 24,000 since it began. Congratulations to Scarborough Business Ambassadors, NYBEP and all their sponsors and partners for another successful event.
As part of this week, Careers & Enterprise Company and York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Enterprise Partnership brought together cornerstone employers to begin work on the strategy that will deliver over 31,747 meaningful encounters with employers and the world of work over the next three years. These conversations will be supported through the programme, involving all interested employers.

LEADING READING
Our programme builds on activity through the Scarborough Pledge, much of which continues. The Scarborough Pledge Literacy team and North Yorkshire English advisory team have created ’10 Questions about Reading’ to help school leaders in their evaluation of reading. This is already being used by a number of schools and supports school leaders to look critically at reading practice and culture and to identify development priorities.
Alongside this, pupils at George Pindar and Graham Schools have been taught a new creative writing scheme of learning that draws on their Literacy experiences in Primary and uses short films. Eight pairs of Primary and Secondary teachers have also been paired-up to visit each other’s schools to learn more about the teaching of English and Literacy in different key-stages. Outcomes have been very positive with teachers forging new connections and identifying areas for development in their own schools.

"JOINING THE SMF WAS THE BEST DECISION I EVER MADE"
The Social Mobility Foundation has launched their Aspiring Professionals Programme to support high achieving Year 12 students from low income backgrounds access the most selective universities and careers. This is a great opportunity for young people in our area and would include mentoring, skills sessions, application support and internships with top employers.

THERE IS A LIGHT AND....
Future First is another one of our partners. They're working with Scalby and George Pindar Schools to connect experienced former students with current pupils to help improve their employability skills.
They've already helped get five former students along to the event at Scalby School that was mentioned earlier. Click on these links if you went to either of these schools and would like to help out - Scalby School or George Pindar School.
