Klimaschutzkonferenz COP23 in Bonn
„Klima schützen – Kohle stoppen!“ – das forderten 25.000 Menschen direkt vor der Weltklimakonferenz bei einer Demonstration in der Bonner Innenstadt, zu der mehr als 100 Klima- und Umweltschutz-, Bürgerrechts- sowie kirchliche Organisationen und Entwicklungsverbände aus aller Welt – darunter die Naturfreunde Deutschlands – aufgerufen hatten. Vor Ort war auch Mamadou Mbodji, Vizepräsident der Naturfreunde Internationale und Präsident des Naturfreunde Afrika-Netzwerks, der in seiner Rede Klimagerechtigkeit und Solidarität einforderte: „In naher Zukunft werdet ihr Afrika ohne Afrikaner sehen, wenn nicht JETZT Lösungen gefunden werden!“ Zum Video.

23,5 Millionen Klimaflüchtlinge im Jahr 2016
Menschen in Ländern mit niedrigem und mittlerem Einkommen würden fünfmal häufiger von "plötzlich einsetzenden" Wetterkatastrophen wie Überschwemmungen und Stürmen heimgesucht als Menschen in reicheren Ländern, so eine Studie von Oxfam. Sie veranschaulicht die Ungleichheit des Klimawandels: Arme Länder und Regionen, die selbst kaum Treibhausgase emittieren, haben ein viel höheres Risiko flüchten zu müssen, als diejenigen, die der Umwelt am meisten schaden. Insgesamt wurden im Jahr 2016 23,5 Millionen Menschen durch extreme Wetterphänomene vertrieben. Diese Zahl ist wahrscheinlich viel höher, da hier "langsam einsetzende" Katastrophen wie Dürre und Anstieg des Meeresspiegels nicht mitberücksichtigt sind. Oxfam schätzt außerdem, dass allein in den ersten neun Monaten des Jahres 2017 rund 1,9 Millionen Menschen aufgrund von Dürren vertrieben wurden. Zur Studie.

Nepalhilfe der Naturfreunde Österreich: Kindern eine Zukunft schenken
Gemeinsam sind wir stark - unter diesem Motto arbeiten die Naturfreunde Österreich und der Verein „Children of the Mountain“ seit einigen Jahren unermüdlich am Aufbau von Schulen und Kindergärten in der nepalesischen Bergregion Tandrang. Durch dieses Projekt konnte bereits vielen Menschen geholfen werden – und es sollen noch mehr werden. Vor allem seit dem verheerenden Erdbeben im April 2015 hat die Nepalhilfe alle Hände voll zu tun, um direkt vor Ort zu helfen. Manfred Pils, Präsident der Naturfreunde Internationale
Der Österreicher Manfred Pils wurde am 21. Oktober 2017 vom Kongress der Naturfreunde Internationale in Lage Vuursche in den Niederlanden als Präsident des internationalen Dachverbandes wiedergewählt. Die MitarbeiterInnen der NFI gratulieren herzlich zur Wiederwahl!
Im Gespräch erzählt Manfred Pils von seinen Visionen für die Zukunft der Naturfreundebewegung, von aktuellen Herausforderungen und seinen persönlichen Zielen.
In Bonn ist vor Kurzem die 23. Klimakonferenz zu Ende gegangen. Auch der Kongress der Naturfreunde Internationale stand unter dem Motto "Klimagerechtigkeit leben! Solidarisch in eine gute Zukunft!". Der Schutz des Klimas und die Klimagerechtigkeit sind also zentrale Themen der internationalen Naturfreunde-Bewegung. Was sind für dich in diesem Zusammenhang die größten Herausforderungen, wie kann ein umfassender Klimaschutz gelingen? Wie sieht eine klimagerechte Welt aus? Und was kann und wird die Naturfreunde Internationale dazu beitragen?
Der Klimaschutz muss bei den Hauptursachen ansetzen. Hier geht es vor allem um die radikale Reduktion der CO2-Emissionen in den westlichen Industriestaaten sowie in den Schwellenländern – dies betrifft im Wesentlichen die Bereiche Energiegewinnung, Verkehr, Industrie und Heizen. Die Technologien sind vorhanden, wir müssen sie nur einsetzen und das wird auch die Wirtschaft befördern. Parallel dazu müssen wir jenen, die vom Klimawandel jetzt schon massiv betroffen sind, ohne ihn mitverursacht zu haben – nämlich den Menschen in den Ländern des globalen Südens –, helfen, die negativen Folgen des Klimawandels abzuschwächen. Das bedeutet, dass beispielsweise Aufforstungsprojekte, notwendige bauliche Maßnahmen zur Stabilisierung von Küstenzonen, Projekte zur Wasserversorgung und zur Bewässerung, aber auch notwendige Umsiedlungen finanziert werden müssen. Dazu brauchen wir gelebte Solidarität auf internationaler Ebene – und das ist genau das, wofür die NFI eintritt und wofür sie Verständnis schaffen will. Und natürlich müssen wir Naturfreunde auch selbst aktiv zur Klimagerechtigkeit beitragen, wie wir es bereits mit verschiedenen Projekten tun – z.B. mit Baumpflanzungen in Senegal und Gambia, die über den Naturfreunde Klimafonds finanziert werden.
Die Naturfreunde stehen derzeit vor großen Herausforderungen. Zentrale Themen für viele nationale Verbände sind etwa die Erhaltung der Hütten und Häuser und die Anpassung der Angebote für Mitglieder an neue gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen. Zugleich kämpfen viele Verbände mit einem Rückgang der Einnahmen aus Mitgliedsbeiträgen und nationalen Förderungen. Was sind deine Visionen für eine erfolgreiche Zukunft der Naturfreunde Bewegung?
Die NFI ist weit davon entfernt, ihren Mitgliedsverbänden gute Ratschläge zu geben. Aber die gemeinsame Klammer der Naturfreunde ist der nachhaltige Umgang mit unseren natürlichen Lebensgrundlagen, das gemeinsame Erlebnis in der Natur und die Internationalität. Wir verbinden Freizeiterlebnisse mit progressivem Engagement für eine nachhaltige Gesellschaft. Das ist für mich das Besondere an unserer Bewegung, das wir verstärkt in den Vordergrund stellen sollten. Wenn wir mit einem modernen, zeitgemäßen Profil Menschen für unsere Bewegung gewinnen, dann können wir unsere Bewegung erneuern und zukunftsfähig machen.

Infos aus der Landschaft des Jahres 2018/2019 – Senegal/Gambia
Bald ist es soweit: Am 13. Jänner 2018 wird die erste afrikanische Landschaft des Jahres im Grenzgebiet von Senegal und Gambia feierlich eröffnet!
Die offizielle Eröffnungsveranstaltung wird in Koumbidja Socé, an der senegalesisch-gambischen Grenze, über die Bühne gehen – mit einem bunten Musik- und Kulturprogramm, mit Aktivitäten mit der Bevölkerung und einer Baumpflanzaktion. Die Vorbereitungen für die Feierlichkeiten vor Ort laufen auf Hochtouren. Ein besonderes Augenmerk wird dabei auf die Einbeziehung regionaler Stakeholder gelegt. So wird Anfang Dezember auf Initiative der Naturfreunde Koungheul ein „Comité Départemental de Dévelopement“ – quasi ein regionaler Ministerrat – speziell zur Landschaft des Jahres stattfinden, um die Behörden aus der Region miteinzubeziehen und als Partner für künftige Aktivitäten zu gewinnen.
Den Feierlichkeiten zur Eröffnung der Landschaft des Jahres 2018/19 wird auch eine Gruppe europäischer Naturfreundinnen und Naturfreunde beiwohnen, die an der von der Naturfreunde Internationale und den Naturfreunden Senegal und ihren Partnern organisierten Modellreise „Tour d´Horizon“ teilnimmt. Climate Conference COP23 in Bonn
„Protect the climate – end coal!” – 25.000 people demanded this right before the world climate conference during a demonstration in the city centre of Bonn, to which more than 100 organisations for climate and environmental protection, as well as civil rights and church associations and development groups from all over the world – including Naturefriends Germany – had invited. Mamadou Mbodji, Vicepresident of Naturefriends International and President of the Naturefriends Africa Network, was on-site as well. In his speech he called for climate justice and solidarity: “In the very near future, you will see Africa without Africans, if solutions are not taken now!" Watch the video.

23.5 million climate refugees in 2016
People in low and lower-middle income countries were five times more likely to be forced from their homes by “sudden-onset” weather disasters, like floods and storms, than people in richer countries, according to a study of Oxfam. It illustrates the ruthless inequality of climate change; poor communities, whose greenhouse gas emissions are barely measurable, are at a much higher risk of displacement than those who are doing the most harm to the environment. In total, 23.5 million people were newly displaced in 2016 by extreme weather. This total is likely an understatement because these numbers don’t account for “slow-onset” disasters like drought and sea-level rise. Oxfam also estimates around 1.9 million people were displaced due to droughts in the first nine months of 2017 alone. More information.

Naturefriends Austria for Nepal: Giving a future to the children
Together we can be strong – this is why Naturefriends Austria and the association „Children of the Mountain“ work together for years now to rebuild schools and kindergartens in the Nepalese mountain region Tandrang. This project has helped many people already – but the numbers should increase further. Especially since the earthquake in April 2015, the group has its work cut out for the help on-site.

Manfred Pils from Austria was re-elected as President of the international umbrella organisation by the Congress of Naturefriends International in Lage Vuursche (Netherlands). The staff at NFI congratulates him on his re-election!
Manfred Pils shares his vision for the future of the Naturefriends movement and talks about current challenges, as well as his personal goals.
The 23rd Climate Conference has just come to an end in Bonn recently. In addition, the Congress of Naturefriends International was placed under the motto "Living climate justice! In solidarity towards a better future!". Climate protection and climate justice are also key issues of the international Naturefriends movement. What do you consider the biggest challenges in this regard and how can comprehensive climate protection be achieved? How would you describe a climate-just world? What can and will Naturefriends International do to achieve this?
Climate protection needs to deal with the core issues. This especially means the radical reduction of CO2 emissions in the western industrialised nations, as well as the emerging nations – in particular energy production, traffic, industry and heating. The technologies already exist - we just have to use them, which will in turn benefit the economy. At the same time, we need to assist the people in the South – who are already strongly effected by climate change though they in no way contributed to it – to mitigate the detrimental effects of climate change. This means that reforestation projects, necessary structural measures to stabilise coastal areas, projects to ensure water supply and irrigation, as well as necessary resettlements need to be financed. To achieve this, active solidarity at the international level is needed – which is exactly what NFI stands and works for. And of course us Naturefriends need to also actively work for climate justice, which we already do through a few projects – for example planting trees in Senegal and the Gambia, which is financed by the Naturefriends Climate Fund.
Naturefriends currently face many challenges. Core issues for many national associations are for example maintaining the Naturefriends Houses and adapting their offers for members to new social developments. At the same time, many national organisations struggle with the declining income from membership fees and national subsidies. What are your visions for a successful future of the Naturefriends Movement?
NFI cannot and will not tell its member associations what to do. However, our common basis is the sustainable use of our natural resources, experiencing nature together and internationality. We connect recreational experiences with dedicated services for a sustainable society. For me, that is what makes our movement special and what we should emphasize. We can convince people to join our movement through a modernised image, we can renew our movement sustainably.

Informations from the Landscape of the Year 2018/2019 – Senegal/The Gambia
Coming soon: The first African Landscape of the Year in the border region between Senegal and the Gambia will ceremoniously be opened on January 13th, 2018!
The official opening event will take place in Koumbidja Socé, at the Senegalese-Gambian border – including a varied music and arts programme, as well as activities together with the local community and a tree planting event. The preparations on-site for the festivities are running at full steam. Special consideration is being placed on including the local stakeholders. Thus, Naturefriends Kongheul are calling for a „Comité Départemental de Dévelopement“ – like a local Council of Ministers – especially for the Landscape of the Year, in order to include local authorities and to partner with them for future activities.
For the opening festivities of the Landscape of the Year 2018/19, a group of Naturefriends from Europe will be there as well. They will partake in the “Tour d’Horizon”, organised by Naturefriends International and Naturefriends Senegal and their partners. Read on at our website!

Conférence sur la protection du climat – COP23 – à Bonn
« Oui à la justice climatique, non au charbon ! » – voilà ce que 25 000 personnes ont demandé dans une manifestation précédant la Conférence mondiale sur le climat, au centre-ville de Bonn, répondant ainsi à l’appel de plus d’une centaine d’organisations et d’associations du monde entier, actives dans le domaine de la protection du climat et de l’environnement, des droits civiques et du développement, ainsi que d’organisations ecclésiastique – parmi elles les Amis de la Nature d’Allemagne. Mamadou Mbodji, Vice-Président de l’Internationale des Amis de la Nature et Président du Réseau Africain des Amis de la Nature, a participé à la manifestation et appelé dans son discours à la justice climatique et à la solidarité : « In the very near future, you will see Africa without Africans, if solutions are not taken now ! » (« Dans un très proche avenir vous verrez une Afrique sans Africains, si des solutions ne sont pas entamées maintenant ! » Regarder la vidéo

23,5 millions de réfugiés climatiques en 2016
Selon une étude d’Oxfam, des personnes vivant dans des pays à revenu bas ou moyens inférieurs sont cinq fois plus que les populations de pays riches menacées de devoir quitter leur foyer suite à des catastrophes météorologiques « soudaines », comme les inondations et les ouragans. Ceci met en évidence l’inégalité brutale en termes de changement climatique ; les communautés pauvres, dont les émissions de gaz à effet de serre sont à peine mesurables, courent un risque beaucoup plus élevé que celles qui nuisent le plus à l’environnement.
23,5 millions de personnes au total ont subi le déplacement en 2016 suite à des événements météorologiques extrêmes. Vraisemblablement, ce chiffre est encore trop bas, parce qu’il ne tient pas compte de catastrophes « à évolution lente » comme la sécheresse et l'élévation du niveau de la mer. Oxfam estime donc qu'environ 1,9 million de personnes ont été déplacées uniquement en raison de sécheresses au cours des premiers neuf mois de 2017. Plus d´informations

Aide au Népal des Amis de la Nature d’Autriche : Donner un avenir aux enfants
L’union fait la force – c’est sous cette devise que les Amis de la Nature d’Autriche et l’association « Children of the Mountain » travaillent inlassablement pour la construction d’écoles et de jardins d’enfants dans la région montagneuse du Tandang au Népal. Grace à ce projet, beaucoup de personnes ont déjà été aidées – et leur nombre croîtra encore. C’est surtout depuis le tremblement de terre catastrophique en avril 2015 que l’Aide au Népal mobilise toutes ses ressources pour apporter son assistance sur place.

Des Amis et Amies da la Nature en conversation

Le 21 octobre 2017, l’Autrichien Manfred Pils a été réélu Président de l’Internationale des Amis de la Nature par le Congrès de celle-ci, tenu à Lage Vuursche aux Pays-Bas. L’équipe de l’IAN le félicite sincèrement de cette réélection !
Dans notre conversation Manfred Pils parle de ses visions pour l’avenir du mouvement AN, des actuels défis et de ses objectifs personnels.
La 23e Conférence sur le climat vient de s’achever à Bonn. Le Congrès de l’IAN lui aussi a été placé sous la devise « Vivre la justice climatique ! Solidaires pour un bel avenir ! ». La protection du climat et la justice climatique sont des thèmes centraux du mouvement international des Amis de la Nature. Quels sont pour toi les défis majeurs dans ce contexte, comment pouvons-nous réussir la protection du climat sur le plan global ? Comment se présenterait un monde équitable en matière de climat ? Et quelle pourra être la contribution de l’Internationale des Amis de la Nature ?
Pour protéger le climat il faut qu’on s’attaque aux causes principales du changement climatique. Il s’agit en premier lieu de réduire radicalement les émissions de CO2 dans les pays industrialisés occidentaux et dans les pays émergents – ceci concerne en premier lieu la production énergétique, le trafic, l’industrie et le chauffage. Les technologies existent, il faut seulement les appliquer, ce qui aura aussi des effets économiques positifs. Parallèlement il s’agit d’assister ceux qui, sans y avoir contribué, sont les premiers concernés par le changement climatique – à savoir les populations des pays du Sud global – afin d’en atténuer les conséquences négatives. Il s’agit par exemple de financer des projets de reboisement, des travaux pour stabiliser les zones côtières, des projets de distribution d’eau et d’irrigation, mais aussi des déplacements devenant nécessaires. Pour cela nous avons besoin de solidarité vécue au plan international, pour laquelle l’IAN s’engage et qu’elle se propose de promouvoir. Et bien entendu nous devons, en tant qu’Amis de la Nature, contribuer activement nous-mêmes à la justice climatique – ce que nous faisons déjà par le biais de plusieurs projets, par exemple par des reboisements au Sénégal et en Gambie, financés par le Fonds des Amis de la Nature pour le climat.
Les Amis de la Nature font actuellement face à des défis majeurs. Pour bien des organisations membres de l’IAN des thèmes centraux sont l’entretien des chalets et des maisons et l’adaptation des activités aux nouvelles donnes de la société. En même temps beaucoup de fédérations sont confrontées à une diminution des recettes venant de cotisations et de subsides nationaux. Quelles sont tes visions pour que le mouvement AN puisse réussir dans l’avenir ?
L’IAN est loin de vouloir donner de bons conseils à ses organisations membres. Mais ce qui nous unit ce sont l’utilisation durable de nos fondements de vie, les découvertes conviviales de la nature et l’internationalisme. Nous combinons les activités de loisir avec un engagement progressiste pour la société durable. Voilà les caractéristiques particulières de notre mouvement, sur lesquelles nous devons insister dans une mesure croissante. Si en nous dotant d’un profil moderne nous parvenons à intéresser du monde pour notre mouvement, celui-ci pourra se renouveler et devenir viable.

Infos du Paysage de l´Année 2018/2019 – Sénégal/Gambie
Un rendez-vous important approche : Le premier Paysage de l’Année, à cheval sur le Sénégal et la Gambie, sera officiellement inauguré le 13 janvier 2018.
La cérémonie de lancement aura lieu à Koumbidja Socé, près de la frontière sénégalo-gambienne – avec animations musicales et culturelles, activités avec les populations et une plantation d’arbres.
Les activités préparatoires sur place battent leur plein. On s’attache notamment dans ce contexte à la participation d’acteurs locaux et régionaux. C’est ainsi qu’un « Conseil Départemental de Développement“ aura lieu début décembre sur initiative des Amis de la Nature de Koungheul – un « conseil des ministres » régional – qui portera spécifiquement sur le Paysage de l’Année. Il aura pour objectif d’informer les autorités concernées et de les gagner comme partenaires pour les activités futures.
La manifestation de lancement du Paysage de l’Année 2018/2019 figure aussi au programme d’un groupe d’Amis et d’Amies de la Nature de plusieurs pays européens, participant au voyage pilote « Tour d’Horizon », proposé par l’Internationale des Amis de la Nature, les Amis de la Nature du Sénégal et leurs partenaires. SDG Watch Europe, le système de monitoring des ODD, critique le SDG monitoring report d’Eurostat : Les progrès et les échecs dans la mise en œuvre des Objectifs du Développement durable (ODD) à travers l’Europe n’y seraient pas illustrés de manière adéquate, et une image trompeuse des réalisations de l’UE en matière d’ODD y serait donnée. --->
