Hi, Bloomingdale. Hello to the rest of You nearer and further, too.
Open Door manifested from curious beginnings, more than 5 years ago. The Open Door concept has served to shape every thereafter path I've embarked upon, and so what has become of it since is perhaps curiouser, still. As it has morphed and evolved into other endeavors, I believe it is appropriate here and now to close it.
For 5 years, nearly 1,000 of you have shared in the invitations I have sent to you, the 38 dinners I have made for you, and the experiences you all have made for one another at my table. The responsibility I have felt and feel to create a space for you to just be, and the gratitude I have had and have for you to partake in and manifest an evening of your own volition is immeasurable and indescribable. What You have shown me is the passage way through the walls between No Things Possible and All Things Possible.
We live in a time riddled with deep ambivalence about how to proceed. To choose is great responsibility, but to be paralyzed by inaction is to annihilate existence. Every day that I continue to live is another day to find traction on the path to All Things Possible. I fail, often, and much. And, I'm still not dead. I just lost my close friend and mentor, Paul Kozemchak. PK was my champion. I'll miss him everyday. What I know today is that we don't have time to lose in self-imposed inaction.
12 strangers self-select to walk through The Door and be, with one another, and this seemingly impossible event has been repeated 38 times. That in itself is a goddamn miracle. So, let's do it once more. A beautiful menu will be planned, the table will once again be set, and for the 39th and final time, The Door will be open.
