A Story:
Laura was numb as she listened to her doctor speak. While she heard the words “...condition is t erminal…no more than six months to live…” her mind was racing to other topics. Who would manage her affairs? Who would make decisions if she couldn’t? This was happening much too soon. She didn’t even have a will! And her family---they had no idea what her wishes were. How could they---no one ever talked about those things!” And the thing she feared most was an agonizing and painful death…
At Death With Dignity—Albany, we are working hard to create a different reality, not only for those with a terminal illness but for all New Yorkers. We provide educational programs that help to further our members' understanding of the end-of-life legal documents that ALL of us should have in place, the medical options that are currently available, and the proposed Medical Aid in Dying legislation. Our programs offer educational insights, a chance to build community among those who share similar beliefs, and opportunities to join advocacy efforts to support passage of the bill. Many of you have told us that our programs have helped you take important action steps, including our recent program on communicating your wishes to your loved ones. We are enormously gratified to know that our work is making a difference.

Death with Dignity-Albany is a local grassroots interest group whose mission is to provide a forum for education, discussion and advocacy related to Death with Dignity and End-of-Life issues. We are an independent, volunteer-run group that supports the work of organizations such as Compassion and Choices, End of Life Choices New York and Death with Dignity National Center, but we are not affiliated with any particular organization.
