THERE ARE NONE SO DEAF
performance by Jaume Ferrete Vázquez

&

VOZ RARA RARA RARA
workshop led by Jaume Ferrete Vázquez

Through performances, listening sessions, archives, workshops, sound works and websites, artist Jaume Ferrete Vázquez works with the notion of politics or ideologies of voice and listening.

For the first time in Birmingham, Ferrete will present his performance There are none so deaf, looking at deaf culture and sign languages, synthetic voices, the phonograph and the telephone.

Ferrete will lead a three-day workshop titled Voz Rara Rara Rara, driven by his research on other political genealogies of voice and listening. During the workshop participants will work with texts, audiovisual documents and materials drawn from the practices of artists, theorists and activists, including Amanda Baggs, Amanda Weidman, Anne Carson, Boris Fridman Mintz, Jonathan Ree, Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Occupy Wall Street, Jérôme Bel or Yes We Fuck. Workshop participants will also explore specific case studios related to synthetic voices, deaf cultures and sign languages, gender and the body.

Voz Rara Rara Rara is suitable for those studying or working with the politics of voice and listening, particularly in relation to technology, body, gender or 'disabilities'.

These events are part of VOZ RARA, a programme by Curators-in-Residence Anna Santomauro and Valerio Del Baglivo
