Coming to America!

I will be coming to Charlotte, NC and Sacramento, CA, Nov 22-Dec 6 for a year-end fundraising trip, and the launching of Senai’s Yirgacheffe Coffee Lodge project.   I am so excited to meet with as many of you as possible; stay tuned for details of gathering times.  Please send me an email if you want to connect, and I will try and make it happen!

They all wish they could come to America with me!
A little frozen yogurt study break!

Step by Step

These past few months have flown by.  I have travelled to Ethiopia almost every month this year.  The past six weeks I have had to stay closer to home due to a broken foot, which had me hobbling around in a cast and crutches!  It didn’t slow me down much though. I have been busy serving our local partner, Samaritan’s Feet, hosting amazing foot-washings/shoe distributions.  This ministry has served over 2,000 children in schools and orphanages around the Western Cape in the past 2 months.  For many of the children, Samaritan’s Feet gives them the first pair of new shoes they have ever owned.  One of our distributions was held at a school on the route of the world-famous Wine To Whales mountain bike race.  Thousands of riders, literally coming from all over the world, witnessed Samaritan’s Feet in action. Connecting with kids, looking into their eyes, sharing the hope of the Gospel, washing their feet, encouraging them to dream big and providing a new pair of shoes = AWESOME.  We also hosted the 2017 Samaritan’s Feet Barefoot Gala (South Africa) in October, raising money and awareness for serving kids across SA.  It was a blessing to have a team from America and the SF founders, Manny and Tracie Ohonme with us for this event and to take part in shoe distributions.

FIVE GIRLS!!

Our girls are in full study mode for final exams right now, wrapping up their school year at Rhenish Primary and Rhenish Girls’ High School.  We are so blessed to have found these reasonably-priced schools in South Africa, where the girls are getting such a rich education and world view foundation. God is at work in each of their hearts. It is so rewarding to watch them develop stronger relationships with Christ as they grow up.  They wrap up their studies Dec 6th and then begin “summer break”.  We are raising funds for the 2018 school year.  If you would like to support our girls’ education, we would appreciate it greatly! Yirgacheffe Coffee Lodge Project

"The Lodge will fuel the ripple effect of ministry throughout Ethiopia for generations."
We have been diligently working on the business plan and architectural drawings for the Yirgacheffe Coffee Lodge.  After 7 decades of our family being involved in ministry in Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia the church leaders asked Senai to help them with business ideas.  “Business as Mission” has always been my dream.  It’s the reason I founded Senai - to help ministries become self-sustaining by establishing profitable businesses. The Yirgacheffe Coffee Lodge is going to be the first five-star lodge in Ethiopia.  It will cater to the growing coffee tourism industry, focusing on the origin of coffee in Ethiopia, offering coffee walks and demonstrating traditional roasting methods.  The profits from the Lodge will fund scholarships to the Harding Bible School and provide jobs for its students.  It will also support local pastors and provide seed funding for other businesses that will be created because of the Lodge.  This will provide a huge source of jobs for the people of rural Yirgacheffe.  It is the largest “venture philanthropy” project Senai has ever launched, with the goal of raising $1,000,000 of capital to build the Lodge.   Let me know if you would like to get involved in this transformational project.  The Lodge will fuel the ripple effect of ministry throughout Ethiopia for generations.

Asfaw Update

I was privileged to visit Asfaw in Ethiopia,  he is healing and on the road to recovery!  Thank you so much for all you who gave and prayed for him through this intense time.  The cause of his dangerous symptoms was a rapidly growing ulcer.  He received some of the best healthcare in Addis Ababa thanks to you.

Family Support Raising

Senai is supported through donations like yours.  As you may remember, our Sustaining Partners support our family, making it possible for 100% of our project funds to go to projects. This year end, might you prayerfully consider becoming part of our Sustaining Support Team?  We appreciate you as a foundational support to raising a family overseas.  Thank you.  Link to our support page
