Dear Students, Families, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of ASB School,

What a wonderful morning with our grandparents, family friends, and visitors!  The gifts they each bring to our children and to our community are priceless.  This annual event is the perfect way to begin our Thanksgiving holiday, as we celebrate the blessing each person brings to our lives.

When we return from Thanksgiving break, we will hit the ground running into a busy holiday season.  Our first trimester ends today, which means when our students return, they will be applying the foundation of learning from the beginning of the year to more challenging, complex tasks.  As the rigor increases, so does their perseverance, grit, and confidence as a learner.  I have been so impressed with all our students have already accomplished this year and cannot wait to see what is in store for the next part of the school year.

After break, we will officially enter the season of giving.  To be honest, this is a season that lasts year round at ASB and I am continually humbled by each family’s generosity and support of our wonderful school.  We do have some important events coming up and I thank you in advance for your support.
  • Mioposto! – On Tuesday, November 28th, Mioposto will generously donate a large portion of their proceeds to ASB.  Help support this event by dining in or taking out – either way, you will have a delicious dinner!

  • Christmas giving – Every year, our students participate in Christmas giving projects.  Look for more information when we return after break.

  • Miracle on 32nd Street – Our 38th annual auction is just three weeks away!  This event is important for two critical reasons.  First, it is an opportunity to come together as a community in the spirit of celebration and gratitude for our children.  They are the reason each of us is here and it is fabulous to have the opportunity to laugh, connect, and spend time with each other as a community.  Second, this is a fundraiser and it is a fundraiser that we count on.  Your generous support of this event is critical to our ability to provide the amazing teachers, strong programming, and resources needed at ASB.  If you haven’t already, please RSVP through the link in the newsletter.  I look forward to celebrating with you!

As we each head off to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends, I want to reiterate my deep and sincerest gratitude for all of you.  The blessings at ASB are abundant, from each of your children and your families, to our faculty and staff, to our supportive community, to the spirit of love that guides all we do.  I would like to close this letter with some words my dad shared with the ASB faculty in the fall of his last year as principal:

“I want to say that I am delighted to be here with you today, in this place, at this time in history, and for these children and their families.  Remember that what we are doing is a science, an art, a mission, a ministry, an act of hope, an act of trust, an act of love, and an opportunity to change lives and the world.  Thank you for choosing to be here.”                                                                                             - Mike Foy, September 4, 2006

Thank you to each of you for choosing to be here.  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Best,
Kathleen Conklin

Volunteering at ASB

Many of you have been asking how to record your volunteer hours. We're working on it!  We hope to have a solution available soon. Thanks for your patience!

Scrip

Thank you to MIOPOSTO and TOP POT for donating pizza and donut parties to our class winners! We appreciate your support!

Remember to plan ahead for Thanksgiving and buy scrip for all of your grocery shopping, holiday decorating, travel needs, etc.! QFC, Amazon, Met Market, PCC are all available now.

Other Updates:

  • Safeway scrip cards are temporarily unavailable – we should have them soon, but as of now we are completely out of stock. If you have purchased a card and are having trouble using it in store, please let the scrip team know. They are in the process of fixing a computer update which is, on occasion, not allowing the cards to work properly.
  • If you are buying scrip for the Thanksgiving baskets at Assumption, they are happy to accept QFC $25 instead.
  • There will be no scrip sales the week of Thanksgiving. We will be back filling orders on November 29
