Fire Disaster Relief

A special thanks to all those who donated, expressed concern or offered housing or volunteer assistance in the wake of the North Bay fires.

With your generous help and the additional generosity of Whole Foods in Sebastopol, CA, we were able to assist a number of impacted families with gluten-free/allergy-friendly foods.

While we are no longer collecting donations for this effort, we will continue to disburse from the fund, as the recovery effort is long term. Contact us for food assistance if you lost your home in the fire, are sharing your home with fire victims or your food was smoke damaged.

Need drivers on Sunday from Gluten Free Expo to North Bay

Gluten-free product donations coming our way: Vendors from the Gluten Free & Allergen Friendly Expo plan to donate excess product from this weekend's show to North Bay fire victims. In early December, we will email this list with distribution plans, so if you didn't receive this newsletter directly, subscribe to our list from any page of our website.

If you plan to be at the Expo on Sunday 11/19 3-4pm and live in the North Bay, email Jennifer Iscol if you can help transport products to Sonoma County. We have a pickup truck, but may need a bit more space.  jiscol@celiaccommunity.org

Gluten Free Watchdog Citizen Petition on Gluten-Free Labeling

Too many products are violating the FDA gluten-free labeling rule by including gluten ingredients in products labeled gluten-free. Despite consumer reporting of violations and organized advocacy, the FDA has not been enforcing the labeling rule in an effective and timely way. The FDA welcomes public feedback and reads and responds to citizen petitions. Add your voice to the Gluten Free Watchdog petition.

Recruiting infants from celiac families for research

CDGEMM (Celiac Disease Genomic Environmental Microbiome and Metabolomic Study), led by the Center for Celiac Research at Massachusetts General Hospital, is recruiting infants from celiac families across the country and in Italy to participate in a study aimed at understanding the role that our genes, gut microbiome, and environmental factors play in the development of celiac disease.  Learn more on the CDGEMM website

Solving Celiac Disease Together

iCureCeliac® is a patient-powered research network (patient registry) designed to help researchers better understand, and ultimately cure, celiac disease and non-celiac gluten/wheat sensitivity. iCureCeliac® allows patients to contribute medical information and their experiences living with celiac disease and non-celiac gluten/wheat sensitivity to advance life-changing initiatives in research, education, and advocacy. Your participation will help discover new ways to improve patient lives through better diagnostic tools, treatments for cross-contact and gluten consumption, governmental policy changes, and access to new and innovative clinical trials nationwide, which may one day cure celiac disease.
