December, January & February 2017/18 Newsletter
Bring on Summer..... Its time to warm up and enjoy our beautiful Central Coast weather. Christmas is sneaking up on us far too quickly and another year is about to end. This will take us to our 25th year here at Lakeside Leisure Village.
We would like to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year. We would like to give a special thanks to those of you who have given us support and have helped us throughout 2017, our family and management have endeavoured to keep everyone happy and secure by providing as much of a relaxed atmosphere as we can. We hope that 2018 will be a productive, friendly and peaceful year for us all.
Work being undertaken
- The office upgrade is a slow and tedious process, with the time it takes to fit the new frames for the windows before having to order them, then having to wait to be able to start the next step. It definitely is going to improve soon and look better then ever.
- How wonderful does the barn and BBQ areas look now, thanks to all the lovely helpers that have given up a day or two to help on our working bees, the barn looks beautiful white and grey and the revamp of the barn sign is just extraordinary. We had so much fun chatting, singing, and having a BBQ and beverage for lunch as well as some of us getting covered in paint. Nigel is currently sourcing a new BBQ, for the 10th Avenue BBQ area, so we should have one before too long. We will be continuing the working bees next year so if you would like to join us look our for the notices that we post on the notice boards. It was so nice to get out of the office and work side by side with the lovely people that volunteered, talking and getting to know them that little better.
Your pets should always be walked on a lead, this will also stop pets walking on your neighbours gardens, or consuming any poisons, eg. snail bait, which people like to put on their gardens this time of year. Please pick up your pets poo's as we are still getting complaints about this not happening.
New Community Rule
You would have been given notice of the new pet rule changing once again. If you have any question regarding this change please ask one of our staff at the office.
Christmas Closure
Our office is closed from noon 21st of December and reopening on Wednesday the 3rd of January.
Garbage collection
The only change for garbage collection day over this Christmas period is the garbage will not be collected on Tuesday 26th December but will be collected on Wednesday the 27nd December instead.
Village Swimming Pool
Its great to see our residents relaxing in and around our pool on these lovely warm days and the solar heating is doing a great job keeping the temperate nice for the majority of you all. We wish to remind you all that your relatives and friends need to be accompanied by you to use this facility.
Visiting Children
Please be mindful of your fellow residents peace and quiet when you have visitors. Please don't let visiting children ride scooters or bikes unsupervised around our village streets.
Our Residents Committee
The residents committee have advised us that they are continually having residents coming to them with issues before contacting the office? Just to clarify; Your residents committee is only there for you to go to if a problem arises that management have been advised of, and have failed to address, or fix. Please be mindful that the quickest and easiest way to get any issues solved is directly to our office.
News
We now have a Chaplain available in our village!
If you need a listening ear and a caring heart you may contact Effie Rogers on 0415 078 123.
Reminders
- OFFICE HOURS are 10 to 3 weekdays!
- Please be aware of one way streets, as we have noticed a few people driving the wrong way.
- Please make sure you check the NOTICE BOARD as it may have important information on it.
- To all residents, the outside of your home needs to be kept clean, e.g. washing of and maintaining your site area.
- Do not feed or leave out food for native animals. It only encourages animals to forage inside our village.
Thanks for the thanks
We have been getting a lot of positive feedback for the work that has been done by our working bee team and volunteers, it is great to hear your appreciation.

We would like to welcome the new residents to our village;

Sales News
As the weather is warming up our sales team is getting busier and busier. We have had 44 property inspections in the last 3 months, with 5 sales in this time, selling 1 new home and 4 preloved homes. We currently have no pre loved homes listed for sale with us, and still a lot of interested people wanting to purchase homes in our village, so if you are thinking about in putting your home on the market, give us a call and we will be happy to give you an appraisal.
After much discussion in our office we have decided to drop our sales commission rate from 4% to 3% as this will help ease the cost of moving for our residents, we now have one of the lowest sales commission rates of the local villages. It is our experience that your manufactured homes have a better chance of selling quickly if priced right from the village office than through a real estates, as we not only have drive by interest and advertising on our website but also get many phone calls every week by potential purchases that find out about our village through word of mouth.

Library News
The Library Group meets on the first Monday of each month at 2.00pm for a chat about books, a hot cuppa and a good time together. Please come along and enjoy the fellowship.
And yes, we will put you to work if you come along to one of our working bees; where giggling and chatting take up as much time as attending to the day’s tasks. But it all gets done eventually and the Library keeps ticking over, delighting all its users.
Contact Lorraine: 4358 4423 / Pam: 4358 4811/Jean: 4358 3941
We now have a computer and printer for the use of all residents. Internet is only available through your own device or mobile phone hotspot. If you would like to be shown how to use this computer, or would like an introduction to Face Book etc., please contact Lorraine or Barbara Green (Residents Committee) 0428 822 530 for an appointment. Those who are familiar with computer use are more than welcome to visit the library and use these facilities without seeking permission. There is limited paper available and we will worry about ink when we start to run out. Any donations towards these expenses would be appreciated if you use the computer corner.
There are quite a few different books on the shelves and hopefully a working bee will take place early this month to get the wonderful Romance books, mainly Australian stories, onto the shelves. For those who love a quick, easy read with a familiar story line that is interesting to follow without too much concentration, then the new style “Romance” books are for you. They have a pink dot and provide an exciting read of the love triangles and problems of modern people. Some also have a gold dot as well as pink, and these are historical romances.
We appreciate the donations that continue to arrive, but unfortunately some still arrive that are dirty, smelly, mouldy and torn. These go straight into the recycling basket, so perhaps you could do that with any tatty offerings from the depths of the garage and only send us materials that we can use. Thank you to all who share good quality books and DVDs, these donations are always much appreciated.
The tea and coffee in the cupboard under the sink has been originally provided by the Library Group, and in future will be assisted in the supply by Management, so do feel free to have a cuppa if you and your friends would care to meet in the community Hall for any reason. It is a great place to hold a meeting or undertake quiet activities. (Though the Trivia afternoons can scarcely be called quiet!) The last Tuesday of each month always provides a great afternoon of debates and laughs, thanks to the skills of Bill Walker, the afternoon tea thanks to Faye Walker and the dedicated Trivia buffs who are determined to have their team win the day. Come along in the New Year for an afternoon of fun and a delicious bite to eat. Bring your Trivia Brain for a good time.
The jigsaws and games are still part of the collection, but we would like to hear how much they are required. Please let one of the Library Ladies know if you are really keen to have these areas of the Library kept as they are, or maybe your opinion could be that we use the space for more reading materials.
Browse through the Xmas books on display on the little table and borrow any that you may feel will help you with that special cooking, lovely decorations or unusual gifts for family and friends.
The Library Group wishes you all a Merry Xmas and a very Happy New Year. Keep safe and well over the festive season and borrow books to take away on holidays to occupy your quiet times.

Social Club Happenings
Welcome to the Lakeside leisure Village Social Club update for the final quarter of 2017. Our committee has worked hard to provide enjoyable functions and entertainment for the residents of our village and our efforts have been well received.
We would like to welcome Pam and David Lines and Fay Walker as the newest members of the Social Club Committee.
Our Father’s Day spit roast on Sunday 3rd September was very well patronised with about ninety people enjoying Leon’s roast beef which I might add he commenced cooking at 4am that day.
The club had a successful bus trip down to Mangrove Mountain and surrounding areas on 19th September with about fifty four people having a great day courtesy of a well versed local tour guide who gave us some of the history of the area and the background of several of the businesses and properties therein. We also stopped at the beginning of the Old Great Northern road at Wisemans Ferry and had the opportunity to walk quite a distance up this very historic example of early Australian colonial engineering. This was topped off by a fantastic lunch provided by the Mangrove Mountain Golf Club out on their back deck which afforded beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.
Once again we had a great BBQ at the barn on the first Sunday in October with good attendance and everybody enjoying the good weather and company.
Sunday 7th November saw our very successful Melbourne Cup celebrations held in the Barn with chicken and champagne being the order of the day. All the ladies looked resplendent in their attire and fascinators and the contestants put on a good display in our little fashion parade with the prize for the best dressed lady going to Lorraine Munt. Fay and Alan Proud then compered a novelty horse race which was well received by the audience the eventual winner being Jackie who by the way refused to let stewards do tests on her mount for performance enhancing supplements, very iffy. The various sweeps available on the day sold out very quickly with one lucky lady taking first, second and third in one of the sweeps. Thanks go to Fay and Alan for their organising great entertainment on the day.
Our last Trivia Afternoon for the year will be held in the library on Tuesday 21st November at 2.00pm and will be with a Christmas theme, as usual the cost will be $2.00 which is inclusive of afternoon tea, as normal everyone is welcome to come.
There will be no BBQ in December and instead the Social Club will be running a coach to the Maitland Markets on Sunday 3rd December departing the village from the front gate at 8am, the cost will be about $25 with people to arrange for their own lunch possibly at the local club, seats are filling fast so contact Pat on 0404486406 to secure a seat.
Lastly, don’t forget our Christmas function will be held on Saturday 9th December in the barn a.k.a the village multifunction centre, commencing at 6.00pm with entertainment and catered meals provided, ticket prices will be $20 for members and $25 for non members with sales times to be advised.
Our annual Christmas Ham raffles will commence next week with three half hams to be won each fortnight so don’t forget to support the Social Club in this fund raising endeavour.
Just a short mention re the work being jointly done by staff and residents on the ongoing beautification of the Barn and surrounding areas it is starting to look good and the credit must go to the people involved thus far.
Once again thanks to the hard working committee and those people who assisted with our barbeques and other functions, we look forward to your continued support of the social club and remember everyone is welcome to attend our happenings and membership of the club is only $5.00 per year.
Bill Walker
Secretary on behalf of the Lakeside Leisure Social Club.

We start selling tickets from 6pm and draw the main raffle around 6.45pm. Our trip to Scotts Head was well attended with a lot of fish caught, but none of the usual "HUGE" ones coming home with us.
