Youth/Child Policy Protection Training

This Sunday or Sunday, August 21

For all those who plan on chaperoning, leading or helping out with any event (this includes nursery volunteers) that involves children/youth ages 0-18, you MUST attend this one-hour protection training.
We did amend our policy that one is to be trained every other year.  So, if you were trained in August 2015, you won't need to attend this year's training.  We know everyone has busy schedules, so we will be offering 4 different times to get this training completed.  Please find one date and time that suits your schedule and commit to attending.  The available dates are:
● Sunday August 14th at 9:30am or 12:15pm in the Sanctuary; or,
● Sunday, August 21st at 9:30am or 12:15pm in the Sanctuary.

Stuff-a-Bus:
A part of “God’s work. Our hands”

Saturday, August 27

Saturday, August 27 from 9 am to 1 pm we will be collecting backpack items for our backpack program and paper products for local charities.  There is a signup sheet in the administration building to donate your time to pass out flyers at three local supermarkets:  Bi-Lo in Sandhills, IGA in Blythewood, and Wal-Mart on Killian Rd.  As people enter the supermarket, we will give them a flyer with the needed items listed and stuff the bus as we receive the food items when they exit the store.  One of the buses will be on display to promote during the week of Aug. 21.  Contact Karen Kranz for information.

Hannah House Food Ministry

Thursday, August 18

What a wonderful opportunity to listen to women and children tell their story of where they were and where they want to be with the help of people like you.  Every third Thursday, Living Springs provides a dinner – usually the entrée provided by our food ministry, a side dish, a bread item, and a dessert.  We also provide the utensils and paper products to go along with the meals.  They love fresh salads and fresh fruit!  We leave Living Springs around 5 pm and return around 7:30.  There are usually around 20 – 25 women and children join us for dinner.  Contact Karen Kranz for information.

2016-2017 Pictorial Directory

You are invited to participate in a new pictorial directory!  Living Springs is making a concerted effort to assemble a pictorial directory of our church families.  (It will also include staff and our preschool families.)
We have partnered with Lifetouch to professionally photograph families for the directory.  Each family photographed will receive a free 8X10 portrait and a directory.  Families will be able to immediately view their portraits and will have an opportunity to purchase portrait gifts.  This is an opportunity NOT a requirement.

Dates and Times of Portrait Sessions
FRI       AUGUST 19      2 PM – 9 PM
SAT      AUGUST 20      10 AM - 5 PM
SUN     AUGUST 21      9 AM – 4 PM
TUES    AUGUST 30      2 PM – 9 PM
WED    AUGUST 31      2 PM – 9 PM
Click here to set up your appointment or visit the signup table on Sunday morning (before and after each service)

Length of Time for Portrait Session
While Lifetouch materials reflect an hour for portrait sessions, the following is a summary of the process: Families are asked to arrive 5 minutes prior to their appointment time to complete registration (located in the LS Fellowship Hall). Two portrait sessions are scheduled each ½ hour.  Immediately following the portrait session, families will view and select their portrait for the directory and have the option to purchase additional portraits.  The amount of time it takes for the family to be photographed and to select portraits will vary by family.

Contact Gail Buchanan or Kathy McDonald.

Feed the Need

Save on Your Directory Photos by Donating

Lifetouch and Living Springs have also partnered to reach out to our surrounding community through a program called, Feed the Need.   On the day of the portrait session, families can bring items for the Living Springs Backpack Food Ministry or Freedom Bags for human trafficking victims, and receive a $5 discount coupon for any purchased portraits.  Click here for items needed.

A New Way to Give ….

especially great for the summer when you’re away!

No Checks, No Cash…Givelify

Living Springs has entered into a new era: the age of anytime, anywhere digital giving.  We have partnered with Givelify, the free, mobile giving app for churches. Givelify enables individuals to give digitally from anywhere, no checks or cash required; your offerings, tithes, and special gifts can be made right from the palm of your hand. There are no frustrating web forms or text-to-give codes to memorize and better yet, the app is free and totally safe and secure.

Givelify simply provides an alternative format for giving; it is not intended to replace our more traditional means for regular giving…offering envelopes, pew envelopes, or your own bank’s direct bill pay.

Lessons for Sunday, August 14

First Reading: Jeremiah 23:23-29

Because Jeremiah preaches the unpopular message of God’s judgment, he suffers rejection. Today’s reading distinguishes between the true prophet, like Jeremiah, who speaks God’s word, and the false prophet who misleads the people through dreams. One is like wheat; the other like worthless straw.

Psalm 82

Arise, O God, and rule the earth. (Ps. 82:8)

Second Reading: Hebrews 11:29--12:2

The author of Hebrews presents us with rich stories of faith. In a long list of biblical heroes, we find examples of trust in God that enabled them to face the trials of life faithfully. In addition to this “cloud of witnesses,” we have Jesus, the perfect model of faithful endurance.

Gospel: Luke 12:49-56

Jesus delivers harsh words about the purifying and potentially divisive effects of obedience to God’s call. The way of the cross often leads followers to encounter hostility and rejection, even from those they love.

Church Humor...

Sending...
There was a very gracious lady who was mailing an old family Bible to her brother in another part of the country. "Is there anything breakable in here?" asked the postal clerk. "Only the Ten Commandments", answered the lady.
Do you have some church humor you'd like to share? We would love to share it too! Send your humor to Lisa in the office.
