ACOLYTE TRAINING
SUNDAY, AUGUST 14 AT 11:30 AM
We are training children ages Kindergarten and up to be acolytes in worship and we'd love to have you join us. Acolytes carry the light of Christ into worship and light the candles on the altar each Sunday. Kids are on a rotation so that they participate as acolytes in worship about once every 6-8 weeks. This training for new acolytes will be Sunday, August 14 at 11:30 am in the sanctuary. Come and be a part of worship leadership on Sundays!
Young at Heart 2016-2017 planning meeting will be August 17 at 10:00 am. Join us for conversation and snacks as we brainstorm speakers, activities, and trips for the upcoming year. We want your ideas for fun, informative, meaningful experiences for our Young at Heart
Come join us on Saturday, August 20, beginning at 8 AM, as we work together to get our building and grounds in great shape for the new program year.  We'll have coffee, juice, and donuts as we arrive, and then will split up into work groups for a variety of projects.  Please come dressed to work, and bring whatever you think might be helpful, keeping in mind that many of our projects will be outdoors.  Work gloves, rakes, shovels, string trimmers, and other tools might come in handy.  We will plan on wrapping up by noon.  Thanks for helping out!

Laura Langley Memorial Blood Drive

August 27

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your past support of the Laura Langley Memorial Blood Drive.  Please help us save lives again this year by donating blood on Sat. August 27 at First Christian Church, 4954 Valleydale Road, between 10:00 and 4:00.  If this 5th Annual Drive is as successful as our previous ones, we will then have saved over 1000 lives in our Laura's memory! She would be so pleased!!!

To insure you won't have to wait in line to donate, please go to www.redcrossblood.org and enter Sponsor Code LAURA to make your appointment at a convenient time.

To read more about what an important part of Laura's amazing legacy this effort is, please click here.

And please help spread the word to your friends, co-workers and neighbors.  Youth age 17 or older can donate with parental permission!  A flyer about the event that you can email to others is attached.  It includes a link that will enable an appointment to be made for a specific donation time.

Please let us know if you have any questions, and again our sincerest THANKS!

God bless,
Jim and Ann Langley

Update from the Personnel Committee

Linda McGarr has served faithfully and well as our financial assistant for the last several years. Yesterday Linda completed her work with us, resigning because her husband's work schedule will cause them to spend more time away from Birmingham.  We are so grateful for Linda's diligent work, and for her bright spirit.  She will indeed be missed.

As we say goodbye to Linda, we are pleased to welcome Debbie McMurtrie as our new part-time bookkeeper. Debbie has a long history in accounting, and works full time as a senior accountant with a local firm.  She is the mother of two adult sons, and has an eleven-month old grandson.  She is also a neighbor of Hugh and Julie Henderson's.  She spent a week training with Linda, and officially "took the reins" at last night's Finance Council meeting. Please join us in welcoming Debbie to the FCC team!

We will be busy during the month of August getting everything ready for our new school year.  Our program kicks off with the parents and children coming on September 1 at 10:00 a.m. to meet their new teachers and see their classrooms.  This is a fun and exciting time for us at T.A.N.  We will have our first day of school on September 6 at 9:30 a.m.

I ask that in the coming weeks if we come to mind, please lift us up in your prayers.   Thank you for all the love and support you give us at T.A.N.

May God bless you!
Debbie
