Swimming
Eighteen year-old Emily Overholt (West Vancouver, BC) had a spectacular day, making the 400m Individual Medal Finals, finishing 5th overall in the event.
Ryan Cochrane (Victoria, BC) and Noemie Thomas (Richmond, BC) finished 5th in their heats of 400m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly, respectively, but did not advance.
Rowing
Carling Zeeman (Cambridge, ON) got the day off to a flying start, winning her heat in the Single Sculls. She will next compete in the quarter-finals on August 9th at 5:10am PST.
The Men's Lightweight Four and Quadruple Sculls finished 4th & 5th in their respective heats and will each compete in a repêchage to advance.
Field Hockey
The Men's Field Hockey team - "the Red Caribou" - lost 6-2 against Germany and will play their next match at 8:30am on August 8th against Argentina.
Gymnastics - Artistic
Scott Morgan (North Vancouver, BC) had solid showings in Vault (14th), Floor Exercise (18th) and Rings (27th).
Basketball
Kim Gaucher (Mission, BC), Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe (Penticton, BC) and Canada's Women's team opened up their Olympics with a strong 90-68 win over China.
Football (Soccer)
The Canadian Women continued their strong Olympics with a solid 3-1 victory over Zimbabwe. The win ensures that Canada will play in the quarter-finals following their match Tuesday versus Germany.
