Happy Birthday!!!- May-July 2016

This is something new we are adding to our newsletter so we look forward to your response. We are going to start posting your pet's birthday photos! So, if you want to recognize your pet's birthday please send me a photo and its age. We want to keep it current so we are accepting birthday photos for pets whose birthdays will be in AUGUST You can look for the photos to come out in the September newsletter that goes out usually the first week or so or June.

We did not have any birthdays reported to us duing these months. We are looking for August birthdays to go in our September issue!

Help the Ledyard Animal Control Every Time You Walk Your Dog!.

If you have an Android or iPhone you can download the app that will set this up on your phone. Ledyard Animal Control has been added to the list of shelters for WoofTrax and Ledyard C.H.A.I.N. is available through ResQwalk,

For Wooftrax: After you download the app onto your phone, take the phone with you when you walk your dog(s). Simply press the “start” button and the app will keep track of all your walks. For every mile you walk, a donation is made to the animal shelter of your choice by wooftrax. Check them out here:

http://WoofTrax.com/

Then for ResQwalk: Each week ResQwalk announces a donation pool and in order for a rescue to receive donations from the pool, its supporters simply need to check-in to the app when they go for a walk.

Earning donations from ResQwalk is simple. All you need to do is have your supporters download the app and select your group as the beneficiary for their walk.

Some of you may not be aware of our C.H.A.I.N. Lost Pet Squad. It's something we started not long after the group formed. It is simply a project made up of volunteers. When I get news of a pet missing in our community, I start the ball rolling by putting it on our Ledyard Lost and Found Pets Page and the Ledyard Animal Control Facebook page. From my list of volunteers, I give them a shout out on Facebook or text them by phone to see if they are around and can go drive through the neighborhood to see if they get a sighting of the pet, notify their neighbors, and if needed, help the owner make and/or put up posters, flyers, etc. to get the word out. Thank you to Bev Nachtwey who assists with this page, especially in the late evenings, to help get the needed information from lost pet owners and those who find a roaming pet.

Also, if you have not liked our Lost and Found Pets Page please do. I also add area pets missing as I realize many of you may work, travel, or have family and friends in those areas.

Comments From C.H.A.I.N......

We apologize for taking a break with the newsletter but the summer months have been a bit slow and especially hot so it seems a lot has not been going on. The needs of the pets has not slowed down though. We have a constant need for food, especially cat foods. I hope you will look at the section that  "What Have We Been Up To?" to see the amounts of food we have distributed and the monies we have spent on spay/neuters and medical costs.  Your donations of foods and funds allows us to keep meeting these needs.

Ledyard C.H.A.I.N. would like to formally introduce 2 new board members. Welcome to Aileen Weller and CeeJay Robinson. We know your desire to do good for the pets and our community will make you an asset to our organization.

Ledyard C.H.A.I.N. is growing and needs some new faces to join us. In addition to  adding to our Board of Directors, we will also be making up committees of volunteers that can enhance some of our existing projects. We are looking for individuals that have some of the following attributes or skills:

• Self-motivated
• Organized
• Enjoy Meeting the Public
• Grant Writing and Research
• Fundraising
• Creating Craft Projects for Adults and Children
• Comfortable with Social Media
• Willing to Donate Time to Help At Events and With Projects

Of course it is important that you have a love and compassion for animals, but that alone will not help us to fulfill our mission. It takes the giving of your time and expertise to make our projects and events a success. The more successful we are the more help we can offer. If you have an interest, please send me your name and address and I will send you an invitation letter with more details. Please email me your name and address to ledyardchain@gmail.com

Our mission is the animals and we will continue to do all we can to make sure those that find their way to the shelter have all they need till a home can be found for them. With your help we will keep growing and our outreach will spread to more that need us.Thank you to all the individuals and businesses that give to us so that we can have what the animals need. Without all of you we would be nothing so all my applause, my thanks, and my sincere gratitude goes to all of you.

Please stay in touch with us on Facebook. We'd love to hear your questions, see pictures of your pets, and learn what things you would like to happen with Ledyard C.H.A.I.N.This group is for you so your input and participation is needed and wanted. Tell your friends that if they want to receive these newsletters in their emails to please sign up through Facebook or our Website.

May

We attended the 1st Annual Canines & Crafts event help by the Mystic Lions Club. They did a wonderful job putting this on and had lots of great vendors and events and competitions for the pups. We thank all those that made craft items for out table for us to sell to raise money for the organization.

June

We attending the Hallelujah for Handbell's put on by the St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Gales Ferry. They raised $300 that went into the Oliver Project to cover the costs to spay and neuter stray and feral cats. They also took up a donation of pet foods that were delivered to the LAC. For the intermission, C.H.A.I.N. made a slideshow for the shelter to show all of the good things it does. We were at Pet Supplies Plus in Groton on June 18 & 19th to help them celebrate Cat Adoption Month. There were kitties there from Fridays Rescue and the Ledyard Animal Control. We had a cat themed raffle basket that went to a luck Groton resident.

Donate Your Car!

Own a clunker or need to get a car out of your yard? Then donate it to and let C.H.A.I.N. receive the proceeds from the sale. I have spent a lot of time researching and have signed Ledyard C.H.A.I.N with "Vehicles Donated to Any Charity" or V-Dac. I wanted a reputable company that would be both far to C.H.A.I.N. and the donor. V-Dac has an "A" rating with the BBB and was voted one of the top car donation programs by carsafety.net in 2015. So, if you need to part with your vehicle maybe this could be a possible route for you to take. For more details please check out their "How It Works" page at:
