SUNDAY MORNING
TIME OF PRAYER

This July & August, all are invited to gather in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings from 9:15 to 9:30 a.m. for a time of intentional prayer.  There may be lots of people there; there may be just a couple or a few.  For the rest of the summer, however, either Pastor Lauren or Pastor Greg (or both) will be there on Sundays from 9:15 to approximately 9:30 to pray.

Together we'll pray for peace and for justice.  We'll pray for our country and for all our children.  We'll pray for each other.  We'll pray whatever is on our hearts. We'll offer up our emotions, our questions, and, because He first loved us and this whole world, we'll seek Christ's comfort, Christ's guiding Word, and Christ's courage to grapple with the realities of life, so that--through us and around us--God might be at work for real peace, justice and love.
SUMMER VIDEO BIBLE STUDY
Beth Moore's Living Beyond Yourself

All are invited to a Beth Moore video Bible Study, Living Beyond Yourself: The Fruit of the SpiritSundays at 8:15 a.m. in the ROC (Room Off the Kitchen). Each video presentation is on a single topic, with relevant Bible verses, and there's an option of buying a workbook ($15) for further homework. The videos run about 45 minutes followed by peer leadership discussion. Each session is self-contained so feel free to attend whenever you want. Contact contact Lyle Landon at lyleclandon@gmail.com with further questions.
SUMMER AT PCUM...

PCUM’s (air conditioned) SUMMER WORSHIP remains at 10:00 am on Sundays this summer.  Childcare is provided for infants through Pre-K in the Toddler room during worship services throughout the summer.

CHILD CARE for infants through 4 year-olds is always available during summer worship services in the nursery room in the North Wing, located off Fellowship Hall (adjacent to the sanctuary and SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL is available for children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade on the second floor of the North Wing.  Sunday school leaders are available to help students and parents locate the classroom.

A SUMMER EDUCATION TEACHER IS NEEDED for September 4th.  Kids enjoy bible stories, games, crafts and a whole lot of fun.  Caring adult teachers are needed to guarantee a meaningful educational experience for your church’s youngest! If you don’t normally teach Sunday School and enjoy children, this is an easy and fun way to share your time and faith with your church family’s children. No experience necessary.  Bible lesson and all supplies are provided.  Please email Mary Beckhusen at mary@pcum.org, or Pastor Lauren at lauren@pcum.org, for more details.

PLEASE SUPPORT PCUM THIS SUMMER!   Summer book study, summer Sunday School, youth mission trip to North Carolina, worship in air-conditioned splendor... As summer approaches please consider "catching up" or paying ahead on your 2016 pledge supporting Jesus Christ's work at PCUM. Your prayerful financial giving will keep your congregation and its ministries healthy and faithful all summer long as we serve together in Christ's name. Thank you!

Deacons' Summer Drives

School Supplies - Through August 21, you can help local kids go back to school well-prepared. The Deacons will be collecting school supplies - notebooks, loose leaf paper, pens, pencils, rulers, glue sticks, crayons, colored pencils, folders, etc. - to be distributed to children in need.

All donations may be placed in the specially marked baskets in the Deacons Corner between Fellowship Hall and the sanctuary. Your donations are distributed through the Human Needs Food Pantry of Montclair and really do make a difference in the lives of children. Thank you!

PCUM’s "A Lot to Grow" Garden is planted and ready to grow this season thanks to lots of help from members of the church family and PCUM's Sunday School children!

All of the fresh veggies and herbs grown in PCUM’s garden are donated to The Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair to help hungry neighbors in need.

Maintenance for now will be fairly simple - once a week weeding and then some harvesting in two-three weeks. Any and all are welcome to participate. Volunteers are needed on Thursdays starting at 9:15 a.m. Just drop by the garden and lend a hand whenever you can. Contact Lyle Landon at lyleclandon@gmail.com for more information.

PCUM's New Opportunities Group meets weekly during the month of August in the ROK (Room Off Kitchen). PCUM and Montclair community members seeking full time re-employment or jobs/projects in the gig economy, are invited to gather for brainstorming, contact sharing and receiving encouragement and fellowship.

PCUM to Create "Emergency Text System"

When a storm like 2012's Hurricane Sandy or other cataclysmic event hits, the loss of electrical power and travel challenges can bring communication to a standstill.  The Internet and landlines are useless.  Even the availability of gasoline is affected, limiting driving and further isolating people. The elderly and those hardest hit can find themselves in vulnerable situations with nowhere to turn.  Those wanting to help may not have a way to find those in need or communicate what they have to offer.

With this in mind, PCUM's leadership would like your help in establishing an "Emergency Text System" based on a confidential list of members' and friends' cell numbers. In times of crisis, even when computers and landlines are down, generally people are able to find power to charge their cell phones.  With your help, this list of cell phone numbers, administered by the Church Office and our pastors, will enable the church to reach out to the congregation and people in crisis, match needs with resources, and link members of the PCUM family with each other and with outside civic and community resources.

To help, at your earliest convenience please provide the Church Office pcum@pcum.org with a cell number for every adult in your household--or at least one cell phone number. This list will be kept confidential and not shared.

Order PCUM Ornaments and support the Deacons Fund

For the first time, the Deacons are offering a PCUM Christmas Ornament that is made in the USA at a veteran owned small business.  This 2-D ornament of the PCUM building is sure to become a new favorite on your tree.

It is perfect for anyone with a connection to the church – married, baptized or confirmed here, members who’ve moved away or going to college, new families and long-time worshipers. A sample will be on display during Coffee Hour so you can see just how beautiful it is.

All ornament sales go to the Deacon’s Fund, which ministers to the congregation and community.  Weekly Coffee Hour and local charities are all supported by this special offering.
