Smalls/Mezzrow Newsletter - August 8th, 2016

Dear Friends:

Sorry that I got such a late jump on this week's newsletter so I'll keep it brief. As usual there's a lot of great music at both clubs all week and I hope you can come out and take advantage of our 2 for 1 ticket price - both clubs all night with one cover.

I want to mention some of the after-hours shows that are now part of the program. For you jazz die-hards we have shows that start at 1 am to close every night of the week and they always feature great "host" groups. Tonight at Smalls is the wonderful Jonathan Barber and his group. "JB" is a true drum virtuoso and always brings out a great crowd. On Tuesday we have a young tenor player named Jovan Alexandre. He's playing a lot of horn with a great sound and some nicely sculpted lines. On Wednesday is drummer Sanah Kadoura and her band. On the weekends we have two afternoon jam sessions for anyone that doesn't feel like staying out to all hours of the night. Guitarist Andrew Forman hosts on Friday and pianist Jonathan Thomas on Saturday. Both these guys play great and host really accessible and fun jam sessions. So if you're a musician and want to play or want to hear some "next generation" cats, simply stay late. After-hours has always been the Smalls wheelhouse - come out and see why.

I hope everyone's been enjoying the summer heat and taking it easy somewhat. We'd love to see you at Smalls or Mezzrow.
