A Bi-Weekly Newsletter from HI54LOFI…
View this email in your browser

I think this is like the 17th bi-weekly newsletter I've sent out since going bi-weekly at the end of 2015. I know, I'm as surprised as you are that I managed to keep it going this long as well. Yay consistency and here's 10 more things to keep the streak going…

1.

Every 4 weeks I add 20 coffee sipping tunes to a Spotify playlist called MORNING COFFEE W/ HI54LOFI… and I just added 20 more to the top (that's 180 songs total so far… which is A LOT of coffee sipping).

2.

THE MIX TAPE RADIO SHOW continued with its bi-weekly-ness and EPISODE 80 (EIGHTY!) is another great collection of tunes to stick in your headphones. As always, you can stream it on MIXCLOUD + there is this ongoing Spotify playlist of all the songs ever played on the show & you can find all the songs that were featured here. New episode coming next week (i.e. tomorrow… if yr reading this today and today is Sunday).

3.

Weird and random question… but what are your thoughts on thrift store's selling things like tampons and adult diapers? Because I ran into this situation at 2 different 2nd hand stores, and even though I'm 99% certain the items weren't even gently used, I was a little shook up both times. What's next… condoms?

4.

I'm pretty stoked about Steven Hyden having a platform to write regularly again on UPROXX. Definitely the biggest loss for me when Grantland shut down was not having regular articles from Hyden to read… although this hole was temporarily filled by 'Your Favorite Band Is Killing Me'. I just wish UPROXX wasn't so damn buggy. Maybe it's just my computer, but dammit if every article doesn't constantly freeze and twitch as I try to scroll down to the next paragraph. #IsItJustMyComputer

5.

There are 2 more excellent 'HIGHLY RECOMMENDED W/' posts to check out… so get your clicking finger ready and go check out all the things that SPORTS DAY RECORDS and AARON POWELL (FOG LAKE) like and think you should like too. Lots of good stuff in both, as is the tradition with this weekly feature.

6.

When a month ends, and if I remember to notice the calendar change, I gather together all the albums that were featured as Fandcamp in the month just gone and make a Playmoss mix. If yr interested… here's the Fandcamp recap for July 2016.

7.

8.

If you're not already visiting Gold Flake Paint on the regular (and following GFP on Twitter / liking GFP on Facebook)… you should start. They've been the gold standard of new music blogging for A LONG time now, and they somehow keep getting better and better. Tom recently went full-time with the blog, and no one is more deserving of going full-time with their blog than Tom.

9.

Every Sunday I remove 280 songs from the 24/7 MIX TAPE RADIO rotation and replace them 280 different tunes. I often do it while attempting to write this newsletter. This Sunday was no different. So if you have forgotten that HI54LOFI has a 24/7 internet radio station… maybe re-check it out this week? And tell your friends to check it out too (the station is currently averaging 66 listener hours per day, but it needs to hit 130+ hrs per day in order to not get shut down by the man/woman/robot).

10.

Just like I did in the previous newsletters, I will now try to go more specific than just including links to my Spotify playlistsmy radio station + my Bandcamp collection + my radio show + ETCing and try and point my finger in the direction of the one 'gun to the head, you can only pick one' musical recommendation from the last 2 weeks: ummm… have you listened to the latest Laura Gibson album 'Empire Builder' yet? If not, you should. It's pretty faultless.

Well, I think we can both agree that that is enough from me. Feel free to get back at me with a sum up of your last 2 weeks. Or anything else you might want to get back at me with. Or don't. As always, it's yr call.
