Every 2nd Saturday & the following Sunday of the month!

SATURDAY! August 13th, WOBO takes a gander to explore Oakland's Cultural Heritage and Arts

We're hitting downtown, Uptown, West Oakland and parts of Chinatown.  This is a flat walk of about 3.8 miles.

Meet up: Latham Square - 1600 Telegraph (at the fountain where Telegraph converges with Broadway) at 10 am.  As always, wear good walking shoes, bring a hat and sunscreen as needed, and bring drinking water.

Check the OUP website for updates on future walks. (hint: we're going hiking through Redwood Regional Park with the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council in September)

SUNDAY! August 14th, Oakland Museum of CA and WOBO Collaborate to roll through places of African American historical significance.

This will be our second collaboration ride with OMCA this year. This special bike trip—OMCA's first to focus on the history of the African-American community and landmarks in Oakland—will be led by volunteer History Docents, put together with input from OMCA curatorial and educational staff.

You'll need to register for this popular ride. $10 for general public, OMCA and WOBO members ride free. Register here. Details of the 7.5 mile ride found here. Ride starts at 10am in front of the museum (1000 Oak) and will run about 2.5 hours.

Oakland's Infrastructure Bond Goes to the Ballots

This November's ballot will be busting open with a ton of choices to vote on. One such measure is a $600M bond measure to shape up Oakland's streets, municipal buildings and parks and recreation and library resources. $350M will be dedicated to street infrastructure.

We're supporting the campaign to make sure the bond measure passes.  We're lining up a few folks to share information about the bond measure at upcoming tabling events, including Oaktoberfest on October 1.

You should join us in spreading the word.  We'll set you up with a mini outreach and campaign training ahead of the festival.  Email Liza if you want in!

Showing your Love for Love Our Neighborhood Day is all the BUZZ!

Did you know that our annual Love Our Neighborhood Day produced on June 4 this year is the only Oaklavia event this year? That means there will be NO Love Our Lake Day.  Why? With limited resources, we decided it would serve us best to focus on creating temporary car-free streets in walking and biking deserts like San Pablo Avenue.

There's nothing quite like working hand in hand with a terrific community. They are throwing a party at Novel Brewing to share with you some beautiful images and videos from the event. All beer tips and any donations go directly to funding Love Our Neighborhood Day.

Where: Newest brewery on the block, Novel Brewing (6510 San Pablo Ave, Oakland, CA 94608)
When: 6pm - 10pm

Temescal Business Improvement District Lights It Up!

The Temescal BID recently completed the majority of a pedestrian lighting project by installing 83 new lights on the sidewalks to enhance safety and to improve the evening experience for the community. This will add to the 70 existing pedestrian lights that were installed by the BID on Telegraph Ave from 40th St to 49th St in phases ending in 2014. Since completing the installations they've received overwhelming positive feedback from businesses and pedestrians alike.

The last of the lights will be turned on along Shattuck once a PG&E connection can be completed. In late summer or early fall we hope to celebrate with them when they take to the streets to revel in the glowy new ambiance! For now, the area will be re-energized with Off The Grid every Thursday. Go check it out.
