Medal Haul at British Acrobatic Championships

Scottish gymnasts were on medal-winning form at the 2016 British Acrobatic Championships last month, winning a total of one gold and four silver medals. The Championships, held in the Echo Arena for the second consecutive year, brought together the best acrobatic gymnasts from across the country. Taylor Wilson and Amy Middleton (Acrobay GC) were first to take gold, taking joint top spot with a pairing from Spelthorne in the 12-18 Women's Pair event.

Going For Gold in Rio

The Rio Olympics are in full swing, with early success for the British gymnasts. The Men’s team secured eight finals positions on the opening day of the competition, including a place in tonight's team final (8pm UK time). The Women’s team secured three finals slots, also including a place in the team final (8pm UK time Tuesday). Ellie Downie put in an incredibly brave performance to become Britain’s highest-placed all-around gymnast after a awkward fall on her shoulder and neck earlier in the competition. Nominating Excellence

Now that the distraction of second-rate awards ceremonies like the Oscars and Bafta are out of the way, we can turn our attention to the ceremony that truly matters - the annual Scottish Gymnastics Awards. Nominations are now open across nine categories, including coach of the year and volunteer of the year. The winners will be announced at our gala dinner in Edinburgh on Saturday 12th November.

Your Club, Your Conference

On August 28th, Scottish Gymnastics will welcome members from across the country to its annual conference in Stirling. Designed to meet the needs of clubs and members, this convference will give clubs the first chance to see our new business development tools, which help clubs attain the next level of success. In addition to six key workshops, there will be a keynote address from best-selling author James Kerr, who followed the New Zealand All Blacks to learn their secrets of success.

Saltire Crowned TeamGym Champions

Liverpool played host to the 2016 TeamGym British Championships on 30th July. Saltire Team Gymnastics flew the flag for Scotland in the Senior Women event. With a combined score of 41.833 across floor, tumble and trampette they were crowned 2016 British Champions. Meanwhile, the junior micro team from Forth Valley took the prestigious Challenge title with a score of 25.150.

Taking Acro To New Heights

Our new Acro Pathway Programme launched at the end of June with an excellent clinic and training camp. And, keeping us busy over the summer holidays, we’ve had summer camps running for Men’s and Women’s Artistic, all led by British National Coaches and performance coaches. These sessions were focused on developing the expertise of coaches and gymnasts working towards the elite pathway.
