Special Middle School Camp

Thanks to our friends from Central Church, Memphis, TN, we were able to offer a special camp experience for the Agua Viva Middle School. This year’s theme was “Abba Love” and the speakers and times of worship hit home for our students. We saw the Lord move in many different ways in the lives of the students. Several have asked to join Pastor Dave’s community Bible studies to continue their spiritual journeys!

Just Like a Little Mommy

Alejandra (8) and her siblings, Alex (5) and Genesis (2), came to live at Agua Viva last year. Before coming to the home, Alejandra dressed, fed, and even tucked her brother and sister into bed each night. Though she now misses her siblings during the day, she is grateful to be able to go to the Agua Viva School.

Until her arrival at Agua Viva, Alejandra never had much time to play and didn’t have many friends, but now she has many. She likes hanging out with the other girls and playing “tickles.” Several of her sponsors visited her this summer and she says they make her feel special, almost like aunts and uncles. Alejandra has learned much since coming here, especially in the areas of obedience to those in authority and respect for others.

When Alejandra grows up she wants to be like our social worker, Mildred, so she can help other children. She would also like to have a good job so she can help provide for her little brother and sister.

Please pray for Alejandra and her siblings--that they would come to personally know the love of Jesus and that they would let His love fill the longings of their little hearts!

Leo Win's First Place

We are proud of Leo for his entry in a government-sponsored short story contest. In an effort to revive the traditions of passing down stories verbally to the next generation, children were asked to prepare a story they heard from someone else. Leo recounted his story beautifully and won first place in the 4th grade category. His story will go on to the national finals.

A "Stellar" Class Project

Fifth-graders at the Agua Viva School have been studying the solar system and did an amazing job on a class project. They emptied their classroom of chairs and darkened the windows to put on a presentation for parents and staff including beautifully painted planets, an asteroid field and Christmas lights representing stars. Each student studied and memorized the data on a specific planet to recite during the presentation.

Congratulations fifth graders on an amazing job!

A Special Treat

We love it when the Lord provides a way to go on special outings with the children. This past month we went to a special soccer venue in Chimaltenango. The children loved playing together and many of our teachers and staff got into the action as well. To top it all off, our friends from Southside Christian School in Clayton, NC bought everyone ice cream afterwards!

Team Report: Harvest Church

(Submitted by Joanna Smith, Germantown, TN)

Our team could not wait to get to Agua Viva and jump right in with the kiddos, but we were a little apprehensive about the language barrier. How in the world would we build relationships without speaking Spanish?

Well it didn’t take us long to realize there are many ways to build relationships such as sharing meals, making crafts, and playing games. And after a day or two, our team members began to pick up some basic Spanish phrases.

It was amazing to see the amount of love and joy that the children expressed regardless of their circumstances. It was so apparent that Christ was watching over the Agua Viva staff and children.

Our hearts are forever grateful for this experience and those who continue to make Agua Viva a “good” place.
