Flood Relief for Science Labs
Dr. Micheal Fultz, Associate Professor of Chemistry at West Virginia State University, is spearheading an effort with the Kanawha Valley section of the American Chemistry Society, the Chemical Alliance Zone, and BioWV to help replace science and chemistry equipment and supplies that were lost during the recent flooding in West Virginia. Thus far, we have received a $25,000 donation from the VWR Charitable Foundation, equipment donations from Preiser Scientific, Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Marshall University and others, and various other cash contributions.
If you are interested in donating or helping, please contact Mike Fultz at mfultz@wvstateu.edu.

JFK said to jumpstart the Apollo program, “For while we cannot guarantee that we shall one day be first [on the moon], we can guarantee that failure to make this effort will make us last.”

Dr. Paul Hill, Chancellor of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, noted that our op-ed on West Virginia's will to compete was “one of hope and vision, construction and direction … not one of despair, downsizing or ‘cutting our way to prosperity’.”
The Chemical Alliance absolutely believes in a positive future for the Mountain State, and thankfully, we are not alone. Brooks McCabe, in a piece focused on Charleston for the State Journal, wrote, “The Kanawha Valley is well positioned to quickly re-enter center stage as a manufacturing location of petrochemicals and related downstream manufacturing.” [Full Article]

And, executive director of TechConnectWV, Anne Barth, provided an optimistic view on West Virginia’s potential in her op-ed, Anne Barth: Taking advantage of our state’s future.
I look forward to hearing from you on these and other issues to grow WV's chemical, manufacturing, and technology industries.
