I've got a whole hardware store packed into my ankle... see below for x-rays!
View this email in your browser

It's been a while! I’ve been lying low for the last two months because of an injury — I fell while indoor rock climbing, and broke my ankle pretty badly. The recovery has been long and slow, but I’m finally starting to feel like I’m coming out the other side. If you’re the kind of person who takes pleasure in looking at crazy x-rays, this newsletter is for you.

I’ve had to put a lot of my studio work on hold, but I’ve managed to keep a couple irons in the fire. I was recently featured in a cool new podcast, as well as in my high school’s literary magazine. And I’ve been drawing a lot. I’m excited about these new designs… Can’t wait to get back into the shop!

I'm on a Podcast!
Do you dislike hearing the sound of your own voice? Yeah, me too. Which is why I’m a bit nervous to share that I’m on a podcast for the first time! Career change strategist Joseph Liu recently interviewed me on his inspiring and thoughtful podcast, Career Relaunch. In the episode, I talk about what it was like to transition from software marketer to metalworker. If you’re thinking about making a big career change, this is the podcast for you. Listen here

New Designs

Because I haven't been able to go into the metal shop since I broke my ankle two months ago, I’ve been spending a lot of time drawing in my notebook. The slow, repetitive line work has felt calming and meditative. Excited to eventually turn some of these into steel wall hangings!

Interview in The Paper Tiger

A young writer from my high school’s literary magazine recently got in touch to see if she could interview me about my work. It’s been a while since I’ve fielded such interesting and thought-provoking questions! Check out the interview here.

Follow Elektra Steel on Instagram for news, behind-the-scenes photos from the metal shop, and a peek inside my notebook. I recently got on the Instagram Stories bandwagon, so I've started making cheesy mini-videos for your entertainment. They disappear after 24 hours, so you'll have to check back often!

As Promised, Some X-Rays

I've practically got a whole hardware store in my ankle! You’re looking at nine screws, two plates, and a cadaver bone transplant, all packed into one little bone. I’ve got a few more weeks left on crutches, and then I get to re-learn how to walk. :)
