Owning Your Own Things

Often when dealing with others, people may say hurtful things or act in a way that offends us. When these situations happen, we need to take a step back and ask, "Is this about me or is this a projection or fear of that person?" Much of what people throw at us has nothing to do with us. In fact, we may trigger something in these people that causes them to respond in a way that may offend us. But if we look deeper, we can see that person is dealing with an inner issue that they are lashing out upon us.  It is important to look at these experiences and ask for clarity, so that we don't own what actually belongs to someone else; we don't want to absorb the negativity or projections of others.  We all have things that we need to work on in this life but it is important to own only your things, as these are the only things you can truly fix.

Inspirational Thought of The Month

I only own the emotions and responses that belong to me.  I reject the projections and fears of others. 

Exercise of The Month - Owning Your Own Things

Sit with a pen and paper and write down all the situations with others that you have an emotional response to. Go through each item on the list and ask yourself if the emotions your feel in each situation are because of your own inner work of if you are absorbing the projections of others.  Place a letter "M" next to each item that demands your own inner work. Look at all the items with the letter "M" next to it indicating "Mine" which requires your own inner work.  Next spend a few minutes each day focusing on each one of those items and try to let go of what you need to release, until the situation no longer has an emotional charge. The more you let go, the more you ascend.
